To his credit, Bagley III has produced similarly as a starter and a reserve. Since joining the Wizards in a trade with the Pistons on Jan. 14, he has averaged 13.4 points and 9.4 rebounds in 14 games while starting and 14.1 points and 6.7 rebounds in nine games off the bench. Bagley III has already dealt with quite a few changes around him since he landed in D.C. At first he was slated to back up Daniel Gafford, then Gafford got hurt so he quickly became the starter. Then, Gafford was shipped to Dallas and Holmes came back in return. In a few short months, Bagley III has been the team's No. 1 center, their No. 2 center and at times their only traditional option at that position. "I'm comfortable now. I think the first few weeks it took me to kind of figure out what guys like to do out there on the court, how guys play a little bit. But now I have a pretty good idea of that, just watching film and playing how many games I've played here," Bagley III said. “But just every game figuring it out and I think now I'm at the point where I know what guys like to do, where they like to be out there. I'm just trying to make it easier for them and they make it a lot easier for me. It's just getting that chemistry together.”

Another area Bagley III believes he can help the Wizards is with leadership. Now in his sixth NBA season, he has been through a variety of different situations, though usually on young and developing teams. He entered the league as the second overall pick in 2018 and can therefore relate to any blue chip prospect the Wizards add to their program through the draft this summer. Bagley III knows from experience the type of impact he could have on young players. "I try to be a leader and lead by example. I think it's good to have vets like that in the locker room," he said.
