Dante Exum was coming off an injury-plagued season in which he had only played 14 games. Dario Saric, Jakob Poeltl and Juancho Hernangomez signed while the league was still in the middle of figuring out COVID. Coming off the bubble, some players took what money they could while they could. Isaiah Jackson signed when coming off a torn Achilles’ tendon. The major takeaway here: Restricted free agency isn’t necessarily preventing players from getting paid. But it is preventing players from changing teams. Which is kind of the idea! Overall, restricted free agency can be tough on players. It seems to be getting tougher on players. But there have been adjustments. In our four-year sample size under the current CBA, only 24 players out of 120 have reached restricted free agency. That means that extensions are happening at a greater rate than ever. That’s in addition to teams cutting loose players they aren’t going to extend or re-sign.

Mike Curtis: Max Christie and Naji Marshall are changing their jersey numbers, per a #Mavs spokesperson: Christie will switch from No. 00 to No. 0, previously worn by Dante Exum in 2025-26. Marshall is changing his number from No. 13 to No. 3, previously worn by Anthony Davis in 2025-26.

Keith Smith: A few things here: - Dante Exum DPE will be worth $1.1M if approved. Lively DPE will be worth $2.6M if approved - DAL will have until March 10 to use either DPE on a rest-of-season signing (or trade/waiver acquisition for a player on an expiring contract) - DAL can't sign and fit in a player under their second-apron hard cap until January 6 - DAL will need to create a roster spot (DPE is a signing exception, not a roster exception)

Bobby Marks: Exum signed a one-year $3.3M contract in the offseason. Dallas is already with 15 players and would need to waive Exum to create a roster spot. However, because they are hard capped at the 2nd apron, Dallas is not allowed to sign a player until Jan. 6. The 10-Day contract window opens on Jan. 5.
