If the trade deadline is approaching and the PG …

If the trade deadline is approaching and the PG situation isn’t getting better, what trade(s) would you pursue if you were Tim Connelly? — @nrcslim Jon Krawczynski: It is hard to put a name on that right now because we don’t know which teams will be playing well and which teams will be stumbling. What I do know is that if point guard is not solidified and the rest of the team looks primed for another deep playoff run, Connelly will not hesitate to pull the trigger on a big trade. That is the way he’s built these Wolves, and it won’t stop now. Maybe the Spurs would part with De’Aaron Fox if things aren’t going well there, though the money would give me pause. Maybe one of the Jones brothers could be had in Chicago or Orlando.

De'Aaron Fox: Draymond Green is the league's biggest complainer

One NBA All-Star is calling a spade a spade when it comes to Draymond Green. San Antonio Spurs guard De’Aaron Fox appeared this week on FanDuel TV’s “Run It Back.” During the show, the topic of the biggest complainers in the NBA came up. Fox specifically zeroed in on the Warriors star Green as the league’s biggest complainer. “Draymond will clothesline you and then look at the ref like, ‘What’d I do?'” said Fox. Fox also agreed with interviewer Lou Williams’ assertion that Luka Doncic is a big complainer as well, noting that “Luka’s up there.” However, Fox did add that complaining to the referees can sometimes be warranted, saying that “reffing is god-awful at times.”

So give us a bit of a behind the scenes look if you can. What's the rating system like? How do you guys go about putting together ratings? Ronnie 2K: Yeah, there's 30 some-odd mini ratings and mini attributes that get cooked into a formula, and it's based purely on performance on the court. In some cases, it's based on, like the young guys, right? We don't have a ton of sample information of them playing against other NBA people. So their's can kind of dramatically increase or decrease based on performance as you would expect and then the people that have been in the league for 10 or 15 years. It's a little bit more sticky, right? Like they're rating is kind of what you would expect. LeBron and Steph. I think they're both down one point from last year. People like Giannis and Jokic have stayed about the same. You would expect that, but like somebody like Cade Cunningham, whose in year three or four and missed a good chunk of the early parts in his career just jumped up six points. [Victor Wembanyama] hen we jumped up six points, so there's a lot of people that are going to grow.

Jim Boeheim on criticism Carmelo Anthony received from former coaches: He made his teams better—sometimes that’s all you can ask

Jim Boeheim on criticism Carmelo Anthony received from former coaches: He made his teams better—sometimes that’s all you can ask

You often defended Melo throughout his NBA career when he got criticized in Denver and New York. How George Karl and Phil Jackson’s criticisms about Melo land with you? Boeheim: “Well, the thing I think about the NBA is that he made every team that he was on better than they were. Whether it was Denver or the Knicks, he made them better. They had to go up against the Lakers and the Spurs in Denver. They couldn’t do it, but he made the team better. That’s all you can do sometimes as players. You can’t make a team a championship team by yourself. You have to have a lot of parts to it. His time in Denver, there were some great teams with the Lakers and the Spurs. He made them better, and that’s all you can do as a player.”

Wemby, of course, hasn't played in game conditions …

Wemby, of course, hasn't played in game conditions since February, when his All-Star sophomore season in San Antonio came to an abrupt end due to a blood clot. Yet I'm told he played in some recent fullcourt runs at Loyola Marymount in Los Angeles and, just so you know, is said to have looked quite stellar.

The Spurs have found their new radio voice. They did not have to look far. Dan Weiss, who has been with the organization in various broadcast capacities since 2009, has been named the club's new radio play-by-play announcer. He replaces Bill Schoening, who retired from full-time duty last April after 24 seasons behind the Spurs' mic. For the past seven years, Weiss has served as studio host for Spurs TV during pregame and postgame coverage.

Ethan Strauss: “There’s been a lot said on one side. We’re getting a lot of play-by-play detail from the Spurs’ side. We haven’t heard anything — not from Kawhi, not from Uncle Dennis, nobody. They’ve respected the in-house, keep-the-laundry-in-house edict. The Spurs haven’t. And so, regardless of wherever people land on this, let’s just understand one thing: San Antonio is the one that’s acting out of character, in terms of how they usually keep their business internal. Right? So, I really took the Spurs to task.” “Adrian calls Kevin Wildes — yes, that same Kevin Wildes who, at the time, was the executive producer of The Jump. Kevin brings me in. I sit down with him. He says, ‘Adrian’s saying that you’re ripping on his reporting.’ I said, ‘What?’ He said, ‘Yeah, he’s very agitated.’ And I said, ‘Look, Kevin, here’s the deal: I didn’t say anything about the reporting. The reporting is valid. I’m saying that the San Antonio Spurs are leaking in a way that they’ve never leaked before. And it’s not fair to make this into “people have said.” I’m not criticizing his reporting. I’m criticizing his source — the truth of the reporting, which is how his source is behaving.’”

Spurs, Warriors interested in Trey Murphy III

Spurs, Warriors interested in Trey Murphy III

Sources say that the Warriors have a strong affinity for Trey Murphy III and have made outreach to New Orleans as recently as this summer. Yet sources say that the Pelicans, to be clear, have batted away calls for the 25-year-old, valuing him highly. The two-way forward will be playing on a contract in 2025-26 — at precisely $25 million — as desirable as his talent. Another team known to have registered trade interest in Murphy, sources say, is San Antonio.

Tony Parker: 'My dream is to coach in the NBA'

Tony Parker: When I stepped onto the court, it reminded me of my basketball camps when I was in Fécamp. Last October, after my first discussion with Pop (Gregg Popovich, his coach at the Spurs between 2001 and 2018) , I felt this strong desire. I asked him for advice, the Spurs opened the doors to me in January, February, March, where I was able to observe everything over seven or ten days. Then, I had a long discussion with Zizou (Zinédine Zidane) and Titi (Thierry Henry), who convinced me to do the DES. Because in itself, I don't need it to coach in the NBA. And my dream is to coach in the NBA. But I said to myself, why not go back to school (smile) ! This year, I'm going to take the DES. I hope I'll pass it in May, and then start a coaching career.
