Abrines played in the NBA from 2016 to 2019 for the Oklahoma City Thunder, the reigning champions. He played alongside Russell Westbrook, Paul George, Robert Schroeder, Carmelo Anthony, and others. It was an intense experience. But everything took a turn for the worse with mental health issues that led him to leave the NBA . " I never had a bad relationship with any player. Westbrook was incredibly kind to me. When I wanted to quit, he took me out to dinner, and it was fantastic. The whole hanging out, playing cards, and all that stuff we have there isn't really the norm. Maybe I would have preferred to have teammates I could share more with, which we did have the first year with the international players in Oklahoma. That's what loneliness is like; you have more time to dwell on things, and you feel very alone. I was also introverted, and combined with other factors, it all adds up, and I ended up the way I did."

In that loss to the Pistons, OG Anunoby and Karl-Anthony Towns took just four shots apiece and finished with five and six points, respectively. Mikal Bridges had just 10 points. Brunson, meanwhile, took 21 shots — more than double any of his teammates — and recorded 25 points. “I was watching the game [Monday] night and I’m, like ‘Where’s KAT? Where’s OG? We can’t rely on [Tyler] Kolek like that,” Anthony said. “What he gives us is a plus. He can get down, he can play off pick-and-roll, but on a night-to-night basis, who’s gonna be the Knicks’ second option? And the second option cannot be indecisive. … KAT can’t have six [points] and one [rebound] and OG gotta step up.”

Oh No He Didn't: Carmelo: "My number's still the same champ. Just letting you know" Anthony Davis: "Hey man I hit you man. You ain't even respond champ"

Kiyan Anthony knows “more is expected of you when the name Anthony is on the back of your jersey,” but also that father and son are decidedly different players. Carmelo, at 6 feet 7, 240 pounds, was a gritty power forward. Kiyan is a wiry, 6-5, 185-pound guard who prefers more of a finesse game. That their skill sets, and career arcs, might not match doesn’t worry Dad. “You gotta remember, this is a kid who’s been dealing with pressure since he’s been born, with my career and his mom’s career,” Carmelo Anthony said. “Now it’s about basketball, and believing in yourself and the work you put in. At the end of the day, he knows how to play. He’s a very intelligent player, he’s young and this is a process — he understands that and we understand that.”

Carmelo Anthony: I know a lot of people talk about the in-season tournament cup, and should they raise the banner? I think you have to appreciate this moment. Like, let's appreciate all the wins that we have, that we come across, because years from now, this in-season tournament, this cup will be major. It will be, you know, a major part of the NBA. I just think we should appreciate the wins that we have right now and be grateful about that.

Giannis Antetokounmpo: I don't like working out with players that they play in the game today. I like working out with all-time greats. I'm not going to compete against them. And I want all of them to know that I respect them and value them, right? I've worked with Hakeem Olajuwon. I've worked with Kevin Garnett. I've worked with Kobe Bryant, I'm going to have the opportunity to work with Carmelo Anthony. I've talked on the phone with Scottie Pippen a lot of times. So, people that I can take stuff from them and add to my game. So, working out with Kobe was an incredible experience and I learned a lot of things. I had my notebook because I was younger back then. I was probably 22.

Carmelo Anthony: “You can't treat New York like you could treat any other city when it comes to performance. You can't do that. Performing in Utah or Milwaukee is a lot different than performing in New York. Even performing in Miami or performing in Dallas is different than performing in New York. New York is a performance-based community to the world. So when you come—when you play and—and you perform—you got to bring your A-game. So New York keeps you on that edge. It's just most people who don't—who have limitations, who can't perform on a night-night basis…”

Carmelo Anthony: “I do believe that there's other tough arenas to play in. Like, it's tough to play in OKC. It was tough to play in Utah. Utah was like a high school gym, like a college gym where the fans is right here. That's the court. The fans is right here. I could trip my foot out and you know and—and—and [] you up on the court. If you make a wrong move, you might trip over my ankle. In Utah, it was—it was—it’s a lot different. Uh Sacramento, right? Arco Arena. Cowbells. Cowbells. It was the worst [] to be a part of. Like it was the worst arena to play in because it was a—it just like a pit, right?"

Sam Smith: A lot of my colleagues, the media used it as a way to take shots at him, especially in the New York Times. I thought they used it a lot to say, well, this is his political philosophy, unlike these players today. And it was a lot different when LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, and Chris Paul were making these stands about, and it was fine. I'm glad they were doing it. But doing it in 2010 was a lot different than saying something like that in 1988 or something. That got sort of smoothed over, and I always felt Michael was made a victim, and that I wanted to clear that up, that that was a joke that had nothing to do with political philosophy, and that was a classic out-of-context gotcha. We don't care what he meant, but it's a good story, so we're going to use it as a good story.

FullCourtPass: Carmelo Anthony believes LeBron James could lead the NBA in scoring at age 40 "If he really wanted to, he could lead the league in scoring. ... If he really said, 'Yo, this year I'ma go average 30,' he can do it in year 23."

Carmelo Anthony: That drastic lifestyle change it f*cks you up mentally. That's the gray area that f*cks a lot of athletes up. Because they sit in this space of transitioning from having this to now got to budget on a day-to-day basis. I got to budget. How I'm going to pay my mortgage. I got a budget how I'mma pay my car. I got a budget on food. Like, it's a lot of sh*t that you got to come back to reality now. Because now you ain't got the bread. You got to be honest. You got to live with yourself. And you got to be willing to accept that. So, I feel what Odell is saying. You know, years ago, Latrell Sprewell said, "I can't live off 7 million a year." Remember that? People thought he was crazy. It's not crazy because everything is relevancy, right? If you going to live this, if you here and you living this lifestyle over five, seven years, 100 million is not 100 million. You're not even seeing 50 of that million at all. Crazy, right? So, it's a lot of sh*t that comes into play with that.

Carmelo Anthony on why Phil Jackson’s Triangle didn’t work in New York: Phil team was more triangle. He just he knew the triangle. He knew what pieces that he needed in the triangle but he got the wrong pieces for the triangle. You get what I'm saying? So you need system people for that. You need a system guard. You need a big that can post up. You need a wing like a Kobe or MJ, somebody who, you know, an iso guy. And then you need a Toni Kukoc, Lamar Odom. You need one of those type of guys.
