Tom Orsborn: Spurs have upgraded Luke Kornet to questionable for Sunday’s game vs. New Orleans after he missed Thursday’s win at Utah.

Tom Orsborn: Mitch Johnson indicated Luke Kornet (adductor tightness) won't be out long... Also, just heard from Spurs here in Utah that Jeremy Sochan (illness) has been upgraded from questionable to available.

“I, frankly, personally, I was not really sure what to expect,” the Spurs center admitted regarding what this team could do this season. “I think that's kind of, honestly, it's really sort of how the season goes,” Kornet continued. “And as much as people like to have their expectations and then how it actually plays out or not, it really just comes down to game by game and day by day and win by win.”

“I’m not really sure,” Kornet admitted when asked what he would use the NBA Cup prize money on. “I’ve joked with my wife and children about it since we’ve been gone for the last three weeks, but there's obviously Christmas coming up and plenty of presents to get! Honestly, I don’t know. The money is a cool incentive and prize, but for us as a team, we are focused on going game by game and having the ability to experience different environments and atmospheres so we are prepared come time for the playoffs.” “I don’t really have big ambitions with the prize money like other guys, though. Maybe I’ll figure it out after we win.”

Jeff McDonald: Stephon Castle (hip) tells @Michael C. Wright and me at shootaround this morning he is playing tonight at New Orleans. Spurs expecting to get Luke Kornet (ankle) back as well.

In January 2022, Luke Kornet was sitting in a hotel room in Portland, Maine, feeling sorry for himself. He had just completed back-to-back 10-day contracts in the NBA with Cleveland and Milwaukee, having been waived by Boston in training camp the previous October. Now he was back with the Maine Celtics, back in the G League, back at square one, and fighting a losing battle with the gnawing feeling his basketball career was headed nowhere. “It felt like a last chance,” Kornet said. For a moment, the future Spurs center thought about giving up the dream entirely. He felt washed up at age 26.

When the epiphany hit Kornet, it came like a blindside screen from Steven Adams: He was playing basketball for the wrong reasons. “A big perspective was just realizing if you’re not enjoying your time in the G League, you'll not enjoy it in the NBA,” said Kornet, now 30. In short, Kornet came to realize joy should be found in the game itself, and not in where the game could take him. It is fair to say that change in perspective changed the trajectory of Kornet’s life. “It was just recommitting to, ‘How do I serve and where do I fit in?’ ” Kornet said. “And just letting that take you wherever you go.”

Dan Weiss: Kornet is available.

Jeff McDonald: After shootaround, Spurs officially calling Luke Kornet (ankle) a game-time decision tonight in Chicago. It's sounding like he's getting awfully close.
