Bobby Marks: The leaders in fast break points this season: 1. LeBron James 2. Tyrese Maxey 3. Giannis 4. Kawhi Leonard 5. Donovan Mitchell

Chris Fedor: #Cavs Donovan Mitchell on Evan Mobley: "He was aggressive. Didn't feel like anybody could stay in front of him and he was dominant on the glass. Especially when they went small, that's what he is supposed to do. That's the aggression we want to see on a continuous basis from him"

Adidas claims that sneaker website Sole Retriever stole images of upcoming shoe releases for NBA players Anthony Edwards and Donovan Mitchell and used them to try to extort the company for special treatment. The lawsuit, filed March 12 in Oregon federal court, names as defendants Sole Retriever, its founder Harris Monoson, and five unidentified individuals—who Adidas believes could include its own employees. It alleges that Sole Retriever conspired last summer with the unnamed individuals to steal “confidential proprietary designs,” including for upcoming Edwards and Mitchell sneaker releases. (Edwards and Mitchell both have signature shoe deals with Adidas.)

It’s Cleveland’s second setback in the last three games. Shortly after the Cavs’ loss to the Orlando Magic, as other teammates raced to the showers and got dressed, star guard Donovan Mitchell sat at his locker with a phone in his hands. He was rewatching the final five minutes of Wednesday’s game, trying to figure out what went wrong and why Cleveland’s comeback attempt fell short, losing to the Orlando Magic, 128-122, in what could be a first-round playoff preview. The reasons for Wednesday’s defeat were numerous. Horrible defense. Flimsiness at the point of attack. Late-game breakdowns. Not enough physicality. Too much fouling. But after playing it back, Mitchell noticed something that irked him, confirmation of what he thought in real time. “I do feel like there were some tough calls that didn’t go our way,” Mitchell said. “I got fouled on a 3 and I’m having a hard time with the rule of once you’ve had two challenges you can’t get any more, especially when you win both.”

By rule, coaches get one challenge. If successful, then they receive another. But that’s it. No more than two. That’s why every coach tries to be judicious when it comes to how — and when — they are used. “Maybe I’m biased because it happened to us twice in game-ending situations the past two and a half or three weeks, but they are game-changing plays,” Mitchell explained. “It happened in Detroit. It happened here. Both of them on TV. I don’t know what the rule should be. If you’re winning challenges, especially on calls that are very obvious, I think it’s something that should be talked about.”

Chris Fedor: #Cavs are listing Donovan Mitchell (groin) and Dean Wade (ankle) as PROBABLE for tomorrow’s showdown with Boston. Jaylon Tyson (neck strain) is QUESTIONABLE. Jarrett Allen (knee) and Max Strus (foot surgery) are OUT.

Omari Sankofa II: Donovan Mitchell (right groin strain) is out tomorrow vs the Pistons. James Harden isn't on the injury report. Neither is Isaiah Stewart, who has completed his seven-game suspension and will be available.

Yet, sources close to Mitchell told ESPN the Cavs' star did not want the team to sit idly by during the deadline. Cleveland began to look closer at its roster construction and look for a way to maximize its chances at winning what the team still believed was a wide-open conference. "I call it the five whys," Atkinson said. "We got to look like why, why, why, why, why? You dive deeper into everything you're doing."

Atkinson said Harden's addition has unburdened Mitchell, who was carrying the weight of the team's injury and inconsistency issues earlier this season. Mitchell's 32.8 usage rate this season is his highest since 2019-20, his final season with the Utah Jazz, and ranks fifth in the NBA. During his postgame interview session after beating the Knicks, Mitchell pointed to Cleveland's previous game against New York, on Christmas Day, as a measurement for how far the team had grown.
