Marc Stein on Giannis Antetokounmpo: Minnesota has been in this thing from the jump. And the reason is, based on everything I’ve been told, Giannis Antetokounmpo has a very strong admiration for Anthony Edwards—and there have been back-channel discussions about this going back to the summer. The issue the Wolves have is the only pick they can throw in right now is a 2028 first-round swap. That’s not going to get it done. So they would have to trade Jaden McDaniels for sure, which is something they’ve resisted in the past. They would not include McDaniels in any discussions for Kevin Durant.”

“I think around this time a lot of teams and players are tired,” Anthony Edwards said. “I’m not saying we are tired, that’s why we lost. If we are tired, we gotta know what the team wants to do so we can be there a step before them."

Antetokounmpo is known to have an affinity for Edwards’ game. It is safe to say that the respect is mutual. Conversations with front-office members across the league reveal a healthy skepticism that the Bucks actually want to trade Antetokounmpo before the deadline. This very well could be an effort to understand the market for him, then use it as a foundation for more talks this summer leading into the draft. But the Wolves are treating these talks as if there is an opportunity to get him right now.

Memphis finished strong and closed out a 137-128 win in FedExForum. The win snaps the Grizzlies’ season-long six-game losing streak. Jaren Jackson Jr. led the Grizzlies (19-28) with 30 points. The recent addition of Ty Jerome has paid off. Jerome finished with 19 points and eight assists in 20 minutes. Anthony Edwards led the Timberwolves (32-19) with 39 points.

Jon Krawczynski: Randle is in against Memphis tonight. Edwards a gametime decision.

NBA Communications: Other nominees… West: Luka Dončić (LAL), Kevin Durant (HOU), Anthony Edwards (MIN), Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (OKC) and Kawhi Leonard (LAC) East: Jarrett Allen (CLE), OG Anunoby and Josh Hart (NYK), Cade Cunningham (DET), Joel Embiid (PHI) and Aaron Nesmith (IND)

Shams Charania: 2026 NBA West All-Star reserves: Anthony Edwards, Jamal Murray, Chet Holmgren, Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, Deni Avdija, LeBron James.

Dane Moore: Anthony Edwards said Chris Finch got into the team at halftime and after the game. Ant said, "yeah, he wasn't happy about this win at all". Asked Edwards about the Wolves' pattern of needing Finch to get into them for the energy and effort to be there against lesser opponents. "Nights like this, it's super hard to find the, not the why, but the energy to put behind it on every play... [Finch] not satisfied with that, and we shouldn't be either. He said somethin like, I'm not gonna let up on y'all. If we bullshit on games like this, I'm gonna be on y'all ass until y'all stop bullshitting. And I told [Jaden McDaniels], he 100% right. Because we coulda played the first 24 minutes hard as shit and been up 30 points and, who knows, maybe not played the 2nd half. And I said, maybe we can shut his ass up that way, if we just come out and play the way he want us to play."

Chris Haynes on the Heat, Warriors, and Timberwolves interest in Giannis Antetokounmpo: “Miami Heat, definitely in play. Definitely in play. Definitely trying to get something done. Golden State as well has long coveted Giannis. We’ve always heard potential pairing of Steph and Giannis… I will say this, I do think Giannis would like to pair up with someone of Antony Edwards caliber”
NBA Courtside: Tracy McGrady says Anthony Edwards is right there, if not better than SGA 👀 “I think Ant Man is right there with Shai. If not, better. He’s a on the ball lockdown defender. I think his competitive drive and spirit is different than everybody else’s. I think he has less talent on his roster than Shai”

The Timberwolves are rarely mentioned as a Giannis contender on par with Miami, Golden State and New York ... but multiple sources we've spoken to say they should be. Difficult as it is, on one hand, to regard Minnesota as a threat on that level when it currently has nothing of draft consequence to offer beyond a first-round pick swap in 2028, The Stein Line has learned that Antetokounmpo has quietly had the Timberwolves in his thoughts dating to the offseason. League sources say that the prospect of teaming up with Anthony Edwards holds strong appeal for Antetokounmpo, which led to some notable backchannel discussions in recent months that lend true legitimacy to Minnesota's status as a potential landing spot despite the undeniable obstacles that the Timberwolves would face.

Get Up: Brian Windhorst has more on Giannis Antetokounmpo and where he may land ✍️: "I think the Knicks can make a compelling offer, and Shams Charania mentioned the Minnesota Timberwolves. He is not mentioning that for no reason. This is something, from what I understand, that Giannis has interest in. The Timberwolves don't have draft picks and don't have the young players. They got to center around veteran players, but that is something that we should keep an eye on as well.
