Former NBA player, Noah Vonleh returned to Shanghai Sharks but his second stint with the team in China’s CBA was interrupted midway through the 2023-24 season. The 28-year-old forward/center detailed a ‘crazy year’ in a series of posts shared on his personal Instagram account on Friday. “Shanghai Sharks are by far the worst organization I’ve ever been a part of in my career. Very unprofessional,” he wrote, “They still owe me my playoff bonus from the 21/22 season. They also still owe me the remaining balance of my salary for the 23/24 season.”Over 14 appearances early in the 2023-24 campaign, he tallied 11.6 points and 5.6 rebounds per contest.

The Bus One Boys, as they have named themselves, consists of Griffin, Luke Kornet, Sam Hauser, Payton Pritchard, as well as Justin Jackson and Noah Vonleh before they were traded earlier this season. Guest appearances often include two-way players Mfiondu Kabengele and JD Davison, deadline acquisition Mike Muscala and sometimes even Jaylen Brown when he’s getting in some early work. To gain official membership in the group, a player has to follow one simple rule. “We’ll allow guys in perfectly fine and they’re always welcome. But if you violate the Bus One code — which is basically just not being on (the bus) — that’s really it,” Kornet said. “The only pillar is participation and attendance.”

Javonte Green continues to provide a spark with his relentless energy and hustle. In his first few minutes, Green blocked a Noah Vonleh layup, defended a Jaylen Brown driving layup by jumping straight up and avoiding a foul, knocked down a wing 3, and forced a Malcolm Brogdon turnover when he stripped the ball. “We just play free,” Green said. Dragić is the offensive conductor. He tallied six assists against zero turnovers against the Celtics, adding seven points in 17 minutes.

So far, Vonleh has capitalized on his chance. After signing a non-guaranteed contract, he earned an opening night roster spot with a solid preseason. Though he called himself “very excited” to hear that news, he also understands his spot on the team could be tenuous. The day after making the team, Vonleh brought up the Jan. 7 trigger date that will guarantee the rest of his contract if he remains on the roster by then. “Still got to make it to the trigger date on Jan. 7,” Vonleh said. “So I’ve still got to stay locked in and take it day by day from here on out and even beyond that.”

There’s no promise Vonleh will remain in the rotation moving forward. But no matter what happens next, the Haverhill, Mass., native is suiting up for his hometown team after needing to play outside of the NBA last season. Though he didn’t run into any Joel Embiids while in China, Vonleh said he did learn something about himself. “I definitely learned that I don’t have no quit in me,” he said. “I’m just going to keep going, regardless of the situation, until the wheels fall off. So no matter what’s thrown at me, when adversity strikes I’m just going to keep going.”
