Chris Haynes: Longtime NBA offensive guru Jay Triano has agreed to join the coaching staff of Portland Trail Blazers head coach Micah Nori and reunite with franchise star Damian Lillard, league sources say

Josh Lewenberg: Micah Nori was an assistant under Jay Triano in Toronto nearly 2 decades ago. Very cool reunion.
Sources say Jay Triano, who has coached both the Raptors and the Suns in addition to numerous stops as an assistant and a lengthy stint as head coach of Canada's national team, is a leading candidate to join Micah Nori’s first coaching staff in Portland after working on Jason Kidd’s staff in Dallas last season. Nori’s first coaching job in the NBA came after working as an advance scout for more than a decade when Triano made him part of his Raptors coaching staff.
NBA agent Bernie Lee on tanking: Another story I want to tell you involves a person I have known forever: Jay Triano. I have never met a person who loves the game and is obsessed with it in various ways as much as Jay. If you ever meet him, ask him to show you his three-basketball shot that immediately ends every game of horse if he gets you to an S. Only a person who has spent a shocking amount of time in a gym with a basketball (or three) is capable of doing that. Jay was coaching a game for the Phoenix Suns where his team was tied with 0.7 seconds left and they had the ball on the sideline. Jay was, remarkably, the only person in the gym who had memorized the basketball rule book so thoroughly that he knew you are allowed to offensive goaltend an inbounds pass according to the rules. So the play Jay drew up was for the inbounder to purposely shoot the ball at the basket and try to make it and for Tyson Chandler to offensive goaltend it at the very last second to win the game - and guess what, it worked.
Marc Stein: Jason Kidd joined me today for his annual @DLLS_Sports training camp sitdown and told me he's installing a new "flow" offense ... inspired by new assistant coach Jay Triano. Our full chat on many Mavericks topics out soon … powered by @buisierdev and Nasr Jewelers of Rockwall:

Dallas Mavericks PR: The Dallas Mavericks announced today the members of Jason Kidd’s coaching staff for the 25-26 season. Head Coach: Jason Kidd Assistant Coaches: Frank Vogel, Jay Triano, Popeye Jones, Phil Handy, Mike Penberthy, Eric Hughes, Josh Broghamer, Dru Anthrop, Keith Veney, Jordan Sears

Ian Begley: Amid interest from Knicks, MIN assistant Pablo Prigioni decided to stay with T Wolves, citing family reasons, league sources tell SNY. One coach squarely on NYK radar for an assistant job under Mike Brown? Clippers assistant coach Brendan O’Connor, league sources tell SNY. O’Connor has strong defensive acumen, has worked for LAC under Ty Lue and Doc Rivers. Knicks had previously targeted NOP’s James Borrego, DAL’s Jay Triano, Prigioni and others for assistant position under Brown. They will presumably continue to look for an assistant to help on offense even if they add O’Connor to help guide the defense.
Marc Stin: UPDATE: Both Phil Handy and Popeye Jones have agreed to join Jason Kidd’s coaching staff in Dallas, league sources tell @TheSteinLine and @DLLS_Sports . Handy and Jones will join Jay Triano as newcomers … with Mavs coaching consultant Frank Vogel now Kidd’s associate head coach.
Marc Stein: Jason Kidd will now have two former NBA head coaches on his Mavs staff next season: Frank Vogel and Jay Triano. Vogel still has three seasons left on his Suns HC deal. Denver is in advanced talks to hire Dallas' Jared Dudley to be No. 1 assistant to Nuggets coach David Adelman.
Marc Stein: Jay Triano replaced new U of Utah coach Alex Jensen. Jared Dudley is a Memphis finalist and sought by Cleveland ... with league sources saying the Grizz seek a lead assistant who can forge a strong connection with Ja Morant. God Shammgod, as close as anyone in Dallas to Kyrie Irving, has strong interest from Orlando. More: http://tinyurl.com/34ecpwua

According to a league source, Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison made it clear to Triano during the process that Kidd would remain the head coach. Triano, the league source said, agreed to terms on the assistant position on Tuesday. NBA reporter Jake Fischer was first to report on the Mavericks’ interest in Triano.
The Dallas Mavericks have agreed to terms with Jay Triano to join Jason Kidd’s coaching staff, a person familiar with the situation confirmed to The Dallas Morning News. Triano will become the second-lead assistant on the bench behind Sean Sweeney, the person confirmed. Jared Dudley is also a front-of-the-bench assistant on Kidd’s staff.

Sam Amick: Worth noting that Triano - the former Raptors, Suns and Canadian team head coach - still had time left on his deal. Jawad Williams, Riccardo Fois, Robbie Lemons and Sam Logwood also out, per sources.
