Law Murray: The LA Clippers waived Nate Darling today, one of seven players who did not play last night in Seattle (Leonard, Bamba, Powell were injured and didn't make trip, Tucker is away from team, Flowers made trip but isn't cleared for games yet, Dunn was on trip but given night off). Per team source, LA Clippers plan to add small forward Braxton Key to camp roster in Nate Darling’s place. Key was on a 2-way contract last season with the Denver Nuggets and has also played NBA games with the Philadelphia 76ers and Detroit Pistons. Also a 2019 NCAA champ (UVA)
A college star at Virginia, Kyle Guy has retired from professional basketball at the age of just 26. Virginia University has announced that Guy has joined the program as an athlete development mentor and special assistant.
Scott Agness: Indy product Kyle Guy is returning the University of Virginia, his alma mater, to take a job on coach Tony Bennett's staff as athlete development mentor/special assistant. He spent the last 5yrs playing professionally, both in the NBA and overseas. He was the 55th pick in 2019.
The University of Virginia's men's basketball game against Virginia Tech had a sideline filled with familiar faces Wednesday night. Steph Curry, Ty Jerome and Moses Moody — all players for the Golden State Warriors — were in attendance at John Paul Jones Arena, according to a tweet from UVA.
For those who want the Knicks to be a solid, respectable, playoff team a lot sooner than that, let me introduce you to Pacers point guard Malcolm Brogdon. The University of Virginia alum averaged 19.1 points, 5.9 assists and 5.1 rebounds last season. He shot 44.8 percent overall (31.2 percent from 3) and is a terrific free-throw shooter. Now 29, Brogdon is set to make $22.6 million next season in the final year of his contract. And according to NBA sources, he is available in a trade for the right package, a possibility that has some members of the Knicks front office intrigued if they strike out on free agent Jalen Brunson.

The individuals around the league I’ve talked to think, for the most part, that contract extension is more of a detriment even though it’s an understood cost. In the middle of next year, he’s going to turn 30. He’s had an injury history dating all the way back to the University of Virginia. Long story short, I think they’ll absolutely gauge the market on Brogdon. I would not be surprised if he’s moved, and they can get value and open up cap space for them because he’s the highest-paid player on the team.
On July 21, 2020, Pacers point guard Malcolm Brogdon announced the launch of his foundation, the Brogdon Family Foundation, to put his dream into action. With his foundation's first anniversary nearing, the University of Virginia graduate traveled nearly 8,000 miles to witness his life's greatest passion in progress. As a part of Hoops4Humanity, an initiative started by his foundation, Brogdon spent eight days in Eastern Africa to assist with and monitor the installation of clean water wells in several communities along the continent's beautiful yet oft-forgotten region. The trip took him to cities in both Kenya and Tanzania, as he witnessed the impact of his desire to improve the lives of those who struggle with finding an essential daily resource. It was a passion that emerged after taking trips to Africa while growing up.

Simply, Mamadi Diakite wanted a shot. Undrafted out of the University of Virginia, the 6-foot, 9-inch forward with an NCAA championship ring hoped to get a chance just to play in the NBA. The Milwaukee Bucks gave him that with a two-way contract. Four months later, Diakite has taken full advantage of the opportunity and the club will convert that deal into a multi-year contract.
Billy King: I first met B.J. Johnson in 1982 at UVA with Ralph Sampson. He remained a friend since that day. His basketball knowledge and love for the game was unmatched. Hard to believe he is gone. He will be missed. RIP B.J.
The platform, which includes a website, discussion forum, shop and podcast, will host an NBA 2K Tournament in the coming weeks. The video game tournament will benefit Aramark employees who work at UVa and are losing out on wages due to UVa's grounds and sporting events temporarily shutting down. The event also coincides with an auction of various memorabilia, including a signed Ty Jerome Phoenix Suns jersey and a 2019 national championship hat signed by Jerome.
Harris is part of Hoops2O Hoops, aka “The Water Boys,” founded by professional athletes many of whose roots go back to the University of Virginia, Harris’ alma mater. Malcolm Brogdon, the Pacers point guard, initiated the program along with former NFL defensive end Chris Long, a two-time Super Bowl champ. Long put together a video on the group’s mission... “Malcolm is very passionate about it. He had spent some time in Africa growing up,” Harris told the Nets’ Tom Dowd. “He had seen the need for clean drinking water and it had a pretty profound impact on him. He talked to Justin and I about it. Originally, he threw the idea out to Chris. And then one thing led to another.”
