Duquesne's new coach, Dru Joyce, was a high school teammate of LeBron's and is a longtime James family friend. Joyce was promoted to head coach after Keith Dambrot retired following an Atlantic 10 championship and a run to the NCAA tournament. Dambrot was the high school coach of James and Joyce at St. Vincent-St. Mary in Akron, Ohio.
Dayton center DaRon Holmes should be on the shortlist of any breakout player projection in college basketball. A 6-foot-10 big man, Holmes had a monster freshman season that saw him make the All-Defense team in the Atlantic 10, win Atlantic 10 Freshman of the Year and earn second-team All-Atlantic 10 honors. Dayton coach Anthony Grant couldn’t have expected all of that so quickly, but it’s not a surprise that the twitchy big man out of Goodyear, Ariz., made an early impact. He was the highest-rated recruit to ever commit to Dayton back in 2020, a direct result of the Flyers’ success the previous year.

The Atlanta Hawks Basketball Club has signed guard C.J. Anderson, it was announced today. Last season, as a senior at University of Massachusetts, Anderson played in 32 games (28 starts), averaging 10.6 points, 5.2 assists and 5.0 rebounds in 35.2 minutes (.414 FG%, .400 3FG%, .813 FT%), ranking fourth in the Atlantic-10 Conference in assists.
Michael Wallace: Grizzlies are signing Atlantic-10 Defensive POY Yuta Watanabe to two-year, 2-Way contract. Watanabe is a 6-9 forward from George Washington who played with Nets in Vegas Summer League. To make room for Watanabe, Grizzlies releasing swingman Myke Henry, who missed summer league.
The Hawks signed point guard Jaylen Adams to a “two-way” contract for 2018-19, the team announced Sunday. Adams, 22, wasn’t selected in the draft after playing four seasons at St. Bonaventure. He was voted co-player of the year in the Atlantic 10 as a senior, when he averaged 19.1 points and 5.2 assists per game.
