The Suffolk County District Attorney has dropped the charges against a Rhode Island-based NBA trainer accused of drugging and raping a woman at a Boston hotel in November. Suffolk District Attorney Kevin Hayden’s office filed papers Wednesday to dismiss the case against Robert McClanaghan, 43, of Rhode Island. The documents say prosecutors no longer believe they have enough evidence to support the charges against him.

A high-profile NBA trainer was arrested on a warrant for rape and drugging stemming from an incident in downtown Boston, police said. Robert McClanaghan, 43, of Warwick, Rhode Island was arrested by police in East Greenwich, Rhode Island on Friday after a warrant was issued out of Boston Municipal Court, police said. McClanaghan was charged with rape and drugging for intercourse related to an incident in downtown Boston on Thursday, police said. McClanaghan has worked with NBA stars such as Steph Curry, Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook.

Vincent Williams has joined the Rhode Island athletics department as Director of Basketball Performance. He will work directly with the men’s basketball program, in addition to the men’s golf and women’s tennis programs. Williams comes to Rhode Island from the NBA’s Washington Wizards, where he worked with the Wizards and Capital City Go-Go of the G League.
