Josh Hart on Mikal Bridges extension: He got paid. So now I can stop paying for Chipotle and he can pay for Chipotle. Jalen Brunson: That's a fact. I don't think Mikal paid once.
Brian Windhorst: The Knicks have the option of riding this core out, or their pathway forward is to make a trade. Mikal Bridges got extended this summer. We have not heard anything about Karl-Anthony Towns getting extended. And I don't think it has a commentary on Towns or the season he had. I just think that Towns has three years and about 160 million left on his contract. Actually, I think it's more than that, I think it's 170 and there would be some challenge to trade that.
Mike Vorkunov: Mikal Bridges will make $33,482,145 in the first year (2026-27) of his extension with the Knicks, and get 8% raises. He has a 5.69% trade kicker, and a player option on the final season.
It is my understanding that Leon Rose and company have been monitoring Giannis Antetokounmpo’s situation in Milwaukee very closely, even before the offseason started. Many around the league believe the Knicks are interested in star hunting, and while that opportunity hasn’t popped up yet, I certainly believe it’s in the cards if the right situation presents itself.
As for the Mikal Bridges extension, I don’t think it’s a coincidence that New York waited this long into the summer to get it done. The Giannis situation has lingered (and is continuing to somewhat linger), but people I’ve talked to are fairly confident Antetokounmpo will start next season with Milwaukee. I also don’t think it’s a coincidence that the Knicks signed Bridges to an extension before Aug. 6.

Ian Begley: NYK president Leon Rose on Mikal Bridges as Knicks announce extension: "Mikal is a unique talent who possesses a skillset & durability that very few players in this league have & his abilities on both sides of the court in every game made him a vital part of our team's success.”
Like his teammate, Jalen Brunson, Bridges took less than he could have demanded to stay with the Knicks. The contract will come in $6 million short of the maximum extension for which Bridges was eligible. His logic, according to a league source, was the same as Brunson’s when the All-NBA point guard signed a four-year extension last summer: Bridges is prioritizing sustained success for the Knicks, who have avoided exceeding the second apron during each of the past two seasons and now have a better chance to continue doing so moving forward.

The deal includes a player option for 2029-30 and a trade kicker. Bridges is ineligible to be traded for six months post signing extension.
