This was a value move that the Wizards couldn't pass up. Young is a four-time All-Star and multiple-time league assists leader at a position of dire need. He can facilitate offense for recent draft picks in shooting guard Tre Johnson (No. 6 in 2025), big man Alex Sarr (No. 2 in 2024) and forward Kyshawn George (No. 20 in 2024). And the cost of taking on Young's $49 million player option for the 2026-27 season wasn't an issue for a team that was projected to hit the offseason with $80 million in cap space. (Washington also cleared $14 million by sending Kispert to the Hawks.) "This is pre-agency," a second East executive said. "The Wizards are using cap space in this deal that they would've had this summer."

Austin Krell: Wizards have ruled out: - CJ McCollum - Khris Middleton - Kyshawn George - Will Riley - Cam Whitmore - Sharife Cooper - Jamir Watkins Meanwhile, on Sixers' side: all of Joel Embiid, Kelly Oubre Jr., and Trendon Watford have been upgraded to PROBABLE.

Josh Robbins: Kyshawn George, who tonight will miss his fifth consecutive game because of a hip flexor strain, is doing some on-court work, Brian Keefe said. Keefe would not provide a timeline on when the team expects George to return to play.

Bijan Todd: FINAL: Wizards 116, Grizzlies 112 Without Kyshawn George, the Wizards staved off a late Memphis push thanks to eight players scoring in double-figures, led by Alex Sarr (20 points, 9 rebounds, 6 blocks!!!) Washington has won consecutive games for the first time since March.
Brown, who was locked into the game, didn’t immediately notice what happened. When he did, “I was a little bit embarrassed. And then I got mad at myself for being embarrassed at all.” “After a while, it was like, ‘Those dudes should be grateful.’” [A hair product on his head would also leave marks on Detroit Pistons player Ron Holland and Washington Wizards player Kyshawn George in the following days.] “They're lucky that I left my mark on them. I should get a thank you card: You have the residue of a champion on you. You're welcome.'"
Josh Robbins: The Wizards have listed Kyshawn George (left big toe contusion) as questionable to play tonight in Philly. Out are: AJ Johnson (G League assignment), Tre Johnson (hip flexor), Corey Kispert (thumb), Khris Middleton (second night of a back-to-back), Alex Sarr (adductor strain), Jamir Watkins (two-way) and Sharife Cooper (calf).

Josh Robbins: Kyshawn George (illness) will not play tonight, the Wizards announced.

Before the season began, Kyshawn George made a clear decision about who he wanted to become – not just as a player, but as a leader. The reserved guard who once deferred to veterans now speaks with purpose, setting a tone rooted in consistency and confidence. “I think it ties into the player I want to be in the future — one of the best,” George told RG.org. “And I think to be one of the best, you’ve got to be a leader and you’ve got to be aggressive on the court. I worked a whole lot during the offseason. I was in Washington most of my offseason for a reason, and I think now it’s just about me putting it into practice in the game.”

George’s breakout didn’t come by accident. His summer schedule was packed — first at NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, then in Nicaragua for the 2025 FIBA AmeriCup, where he represented Team Canada. The international tournament provided exactly what he sought: meaningful minutes in competitive games. He averaged 15.5 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 4.3 assists while shooting 56.4 percent from the field and 52.4 percent from beyond the arc, earning multiple Player of the Game honors. “To me there’s nothing better than actually applying what you worked on in a real game,” George told RG.org. “Especially in AmeriCup, where it’s really like a high-stakes game — you’re trying to win a medal. And to play in a different environment too, it shows different aspects that you didn’t necessarily think about when you were working out on your own and stuff like that. So I think it’s just to gain experience and get reps in.”

Josh Robbins: Bilal Coulibaly, now fully ready to play after mid-September thumb-ligament surgery, will be in the Wizards' starting lineup tonight. The starters — per the NBA's stats system — are CJ McCollum, Bilal Coulibaly, Kyshawn George, Khris Middleton and Alex Sarr.

As expected, the Washington Wizards soon will exercise their third-year team options on Bub Carrington, Kyshawn George, AJ Johnson and Alex Sarr and their fourth-year team options on Bilal Coulibaly and Cam Whitmore, team sources said. The options are for the 2026-27 season and are part of these players' rookie-scale contracts.
