Sam Amick: So, it feels like that the focus for the Warriors, I mean, for one, I was actually told that that Keegan Murray and Keon Ellis have not even been discussed for what it's worth. And then on top of that, if the Warriors focus seems to be on the pick and if the Kings went the Warriors request is then go completely unprotected on the 2030 first rounder. And I think if the Kings obliged, then it feels like that deal would get done. And so it feels like the focus is more on the pick than it is them trying to get any other young prospects from the Kings.
Marc J. Spears on Jonathan Kuminga: He wants to go. And the Kings are offering a starting spot. Okay. At power forward—next to Keegan Murray, next to Sabonis. He's talked on a Zoom call with Scott Perry, as you know, the GM, B.J. Armstrong, the assistant GM, and also with their head coach. He wants to go there. But I think the issue is, first, the Warriors don’t like the pick.
Kuminga wants a fresh start with a new team and the Warriors have given him reason to question their commitment to him. He likes the opportunity the Kings have presented, but the Warriors seem unwilling to accept a package featuring Devin Carter, Dario Saric and draft compensation, which could a protected first-round pick or multiple second-round picks. The Warriors would probably be quick to pull the trigger on a deal involving Keegan Murray or Keon Ellis. However, a source with knowledge of trade conversations told The Sacramento Bee that Murray and Ellis have not been discussed and both are considered off limits in talks for Kuminga.
On Keegan Murray and a possible extension: “We’re so happy with Keegan and his development. He’s had a tough role every year, really. As a rookie, we asked him to shoot a lot more. Last year, he was often the fourth or fifth option. For a young guy, that can be hard to adjust to. But to his credit, Keegan never balked. We feel like he’s a top defender as his position and the offense is there. It’s on us to make sure we don’t let him go too long without getting involved,” a Kings front office executive said. “As far as an extension goes, Keegan and his reps know how we feel about him. We’re hopeful that we can get something done that keeps him in Sacramento for a long time.”
