The Sacramento Kings have been “trying very hard” to trade Malik Monk this offseason, but they haven’t found a taker, an NBA source told Grant Afseth of DallasHoopsJournal.
The Kings have been trying to trade Monk to open up a spot for Russell Westbrook, who is an unrestricted free agent. Sacramento wants to sign Westbrook and bring the former NBA MVP off the bench as its sixth man behind Dennis Schröder.
Allen Stiles: As far as you know and as far as we've been told, the Warriors, even if even if Jonathan Kuminga were to take the two-year deal, the Warriors would be, I guess, more in on Malik Monk than DeMar Rozan, or could they could they be swayed by maybe his vet status? He's a future Hall of Famer. Is there any world where DeMar DeRozan could excite them at any point in time? Brett Siegel: Right now, I would say no before the season, but obviously when the season starts, we don't know what's going to happen.
Allen Stiles: I'm in the process of trying to get that confirmation within either organization, but when it comes to the Malik Monk of it all, right, from what I've heard and from those that do tend to be in the know, they would not be surprised if the Kings were one of those teams. Now, obviously Josh Giddey is a guard and they do have Dennis Schroeder on this three-year deal, but everything that the Kings have done to this point this off season have told us that they are open to everything. They are open to literally everything.

As for the Kings, which last spoke with the Warriors earlier this week, team sources say they’ve offered a three-year, $63 million deal for Kuminga in a proposal that would send veteran guard Malik Monk and their 2030 first-round pick (lottery protected) to the Warriors. If that pick didn’t convey, then the Warriors would get the least favorable of the Kings or San Antonio’s first-round pick in 2031. Those protections have been the primary sticking point, team sources said, as the Warriors have insisted that the first-rounder be unprotected. Thus, the stalemate.
Matt George: On the Kings/Russell Westbrook front: Both parties have been talking and have had mutual interest since free agency began. That's been well known. From what I gather, the Kings are still looking to move a player like Devin Carter or Malik Monk before they can bring Westbrook in. The Kings have a log jam at the guard position and very little financial flexibility to work with.

Sean Cunningham: Kings GM Scott Perry on Malik Monk: "I've had conversations with him both on the phone and in person here recently, and it's been very good. So we knew each other a little bit, getting to know each other a lot better now, so (I) look forward to working with him."
Michael Scotto on Jonathan Kuminga: If the market doesn't dictate what he wants, ultimately, you can use that trade kicker to get back some of that money you feel like you may not be able to get at this point in the market given the teams that just don't have a lot of cap space. And with him, you'd have to be doing a sign-and-trade deal. I know some people have mentioned Brooklyn. I don't see that ultimately from my sources. So, I think that narrows it down a bit. Big picture, there's been talk about you guys in Sacramento for sure, but I also think if that's going to happen, there's got to be a moving of parts here, whether it's a Malik Monk to DeMar DeRozan, even if it's not to go somewhere like a three-team deal. So, there's a lot of variables to whether Jonathan Kuminga can go to Sacramento or anywhere. So ultimately there is a decent chance that he could stay in Golden State, get a deal that you can potentially look to flip going into the February trade deadline or possibly even a little bit before that. But essentially that's kind of where that situation is right now.

Jonathan Kuminga and Malik Monk could be on the move soon. The Warriors, Kings and Detroit Pistons are discussing a three-team blockbuster that would send Kuminga and veteran point guard Dennis Schröder to Sacramento in separate sign-and-trade deals, a source told NBC Sports California. The trade discussions remain fluid.
Matt George: The Sacramento Kings have remained open still to a sign-and-trade of Malik Monk to Detroit. They still have a few days to complete that. Meanwhile, the Kings are very engaged on the Jonathan Kuminga front in a deal which, I'm told, likely wouldn't involve Monk. @ABC10
Chris Haynes with updates: CP3: "Bucks have registered interest in him...I'm told he wants to stay closer to home. Clippers and Suns are still in play" Russ: "I thought he would end up in Sacramento. But the Kings were unable to unload Malik Monk"interest in him...I'm told he wants to stay closer to home. Clippers and Suns are still in play"
Vincent Goodwill: Pistons signing Duncan Robinson to 3/48M per sources… one would think it takes them out the running for a Malik Monk S/T, along with getting off of Fontecchio
