The Phoenix Suns, who are seeking power forward depth, are among several teams that have checked in on San Antonio Spurs forward Jeremy Sochan, league sources told HoopsHype. Suns center Nick Richards was brought up during exploratory talks, sources said. However, such a move would push the Suns further above the luxury tax, which is not ideally something Phoenix wants to do.

Tom Orsborn: Mitch Johnson indicated Luke Kornet (adductor tightness) won't be out long... Also, just heard from Spurs here in Utah that Jeremy Sochan (illness) has been upgraded from questionable to available.

Jeremy Sochan settled into a place he started calling home, with tacos and culture and warm people who understood him. But the fourth-year Spurs forward is not naïve. He can read the box scores. He can read the room. He can read the writing on the wall. And he knows he soon might be on the move again. “I try to think in the present moment and what is now,” Sochan said. “But it’s impossible not to think about (being traded).”

Even as he’s tried to stay ready over the past month, the 23-year-old who delights in being an on-court instigator admits he’s had “dark days” coming to terms with the reality of the situation. “I’m not going to lie to you guys and say it was rainbows and sunshine all day,” Sochan said. “There’s been moments where it’s been very hard.”

The front office has to at least consider the possibility of trading him for a shooter. Sochan knows this, even if he tries not to dwell on it. “I can think of all the excuses and the reasons (why), but at the end of the day, it’s important for me to remember who I am,” Sochan said. “And even if you can't see the light, I think if you keep working and put your efforts and your mind in the right place, you're always going to find it somewhere.”

Mike Finger: Sochan told us JV told him to come see him after the game, so he did. “We just had a polite exchange and, I was, I think, very joyful and, you know, the other person wasn't. He wasn't stable in that moment. So, something he has to work on.”

Q. We see that a lot from Luka's come out and said it. I think Lauren Markkanen said it, Jokic said, it's easier to score in the NBA than it is when you're playing over in Europe. Do you see the game the same way? Jeremy Sochan: I think so. I think so. In the NBA, I don't want to say it's open because everyone's so athletic, but you have three-second defensive calls. You have different areas you can't touch and stuff. So it's easier. It's easier for sure. But again, you still need to be very talented to score in this league.

Jeremy Sochan on why he plays for Poland and not the UK: I'm going to be honest. I was playing for both teams. I went to Copenhagen I think with England, had a great tournament. At the same time I was playing for Poland. I had a good tournament there. You got to balance it out. And I looked at both options and we got to be honest, at the time I had way more opportunities with Poland whether it was games, training camps, testing, just exposure level to other European clubs, countries… It was on a different level at the time. It's a shame again if they were the same opportunities, what would I pick? I'm not sure. I can't tell you that. With Poland all the camps were free, the flights were free, whereas with England, it’s a struggle.

Tom Orsborn: Mitch Johnson indicated Jeremy Sochan’s significant dip in minutes (just 4 over the last two games) is solely a coaching decision. “Jeremy has been great,” the coach said. “We have been on the same page, a lot of communication.”
Jared Weiss: The Spurs’ De’Aaron Fox and Luke Kornet remain out tomorrow against the Lakers. Dylan Harper remains out with a calf strain. Kelly Olynyk, Lindy Waters and Jeremy Sochan will be evaluated after practice today and/or shootaround tomorrow for their potential season debut.

Spurs forward Jeremy Sochan will miss San Antonio's season opener at Dallas on Wednesday with a sprained left wrist. Sochan was injured at practice Wednesday during a 5-on-5 drill as he neared a return from a strained calf.
