He was the coach that gave me my first opportunity to play in the NBA, so that’s a guy who realized a dream for me. He was a big part of it. And the way that he coaches—you can see, one thing that I always like about guys who were players and now are coaches is that they understand the players very, very well. The fact that he was a player and played a long time in the NBA, being in the NBA for a long time, he really understands everything that players go through. So yeah, I love that. And like I said, Steve is a really, really special dude for me. I want to be coached by him my whole career if I can.”

Quinten Post had five turnovers, as did Gui Santos. Podziemski committed four. Gui Santos’ emergence this season has been one of the best stories of the Warriors and the entire NBA. All the work Santos has put in since being selected by Golden State in the second round of the 2022 NBA Draft was rewarded Saturday by the Warriors with a multi-year contract extension. While the Warriors didn’t announce details of the deal, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported, citing sources, that Santos signed a three-year, $15 million contract with a player option for the 2028-29 NBA season. “Happy for Gui, and happy for us,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said Saturday during his pregame press conference. “He’s been such an important player for us, but also just an incredible development story. Second-round pick and spent his entire first year in Santa Cruz. … He’s become one of our most important players. We’re all so thrilled for him. He’s excited, it’s a great day.”
Disguising his tone the best he could, Santos told his parents he had something serious to talk about. Life is good for Santos. He doesn’t get in trouble off the court, has been enjoying the best season of his young NBA career and got engaged over the summer. “They were very excited, emotional,” Santos said. “More than anybody, they know how tough it was for me to make it here. Just to have that call, I was kind of serious, like, ‘Dad, mom, I got something serious to talk about to you guys.’ And they thought I got my fiancé pregnant.”
“I was kind of serious,” Santos said after scoring 14 points in Saturday’s 129-101 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers. “Like ‘Dad, Mom, I’ve got something serious to talk to you guys (about). And they thought that I got my fiancée pregnant.” Santos’ girlfriend wasn’t pregnant, but he did take a huge step in his life. That’s because his contract extension signing Saturday continues to reveal a new generation of young Brazilian players who can also carve their path in the league. ESPN initially reported that the deal was for $15 million, and a team source confirmed that the final year of the deal is a player option for Santos.

Will Richard scored 21 points, Brandin Podziemski and Gary Payton II added 19 apiece and the Golden State Warriors routed the Memphis Grizzlies 133-112 on Wednesday night in a game between two teams depleted by injuries. Gui Santos added 17 points as eight of the nine Golden State players who saw action reached double figures. The ninth player, Malevy Leons, had nine points.
