Smith will also start his fourth NBA season playing alongside a group of new teammates after the Rockets added superstar forward Kevin Durant, forward Dorian Finney-Smith and center Clint Capela this offseason. “I’m excited, honestly, just to see what we can do, the heights we can reach, just growing together, meeting new teammates,” Smith said. “I’m just overly excited.”
Michael Scotto: Update: The Houston Rockets signed Dorian Finney-Smith to a four-year, $53 million deal, which is fully guaranteed the first two seasons, has a third-year non-guaranteed salary, and a fourth-year non-guaranteed salary and player option, league sources told @hoopshype.
As of now, Finney-Smith is not a part of this seven-team deal. The only players who were in the NBA last season who are part of it today are Capela, Durant, Dillon Brooks, Jalen Green, Daeqwon Plowden and David Roddy, league sources say.
Houston has only the midlevel exception to sign a player, which meant they had to turn either the Finney-Smith or Clint Capela agreement into a sign-and-trade. That’s what they’re doing in this seven-team deal, which is not yet complete and which would include Capela heading from Atlanta to Houston.

Bobby Marks: The Jock Landale waiver was required in order for Houston to stay below the 1st apron. Houston is triggering the 1st apron as part of the Dorian Finney-Smith signing along with acquiring Clint Capela sign-and-trade. The Rockets are 1 of 7 teams involved in a record breaking trade that includes Kevin Durant and Capela. That trade is likely to be finalized on July 6.
Dave McMenamin: Dalton Knecht was disappointed to hear about Dorian Finney-Smith signing with the Rockets, but looks forward to welcoming Jake LaRavia to Los Angeles. “Losing Doe sucks”

Kevin Durant: "Attack the paint, try to get layups, try to get threes. But when it's five to six seconds on the clock, give the ball to the best player. And if you shoot a mid-range at that point, then he's shooting a mid-range. But we not going to waste the clock trying to look for a three with two seconds on the clock, and we giving it to no Dorian Finney-Smith with two seconds on the clock to make a three." "That's not—that's not what we... Or Royce O'Neale. That's not—I mean, they can hit it for sure—but that's not sustainable offense for us going forward."

Yossi Gozlan: The Rockets don't have enough remaining in their mid-level to sign Clint Capela to these terms. It looks like a sign and trade is coming, either with this deal or for Dorian Finney-Smith.

Yossi Gozlan: Either way, I'd guess the Rockets trade Cam Whitmore and cut Jock Landale at a minimum. This allows them to fit Dorian Finney-Smith and Clint Capela at their reported numbers under the $195.9 million first apron hard cap.
Michael Scotto: Houston Rockets have agreed to a four-year, $53 million deal with Dorian Finney-Smith, which includes a non-guaranteed salary and player option in Year 4, plus a trade kicker, sources told @hoopshype . Agent Michael Tellem of Excel Sports and Rockets officials negotiated the deal.
