In Brogdon's case, Golden State's long-running stalemate with restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga has contributed to the uncomfortable wait. We won't know if the Warriors emerge with more serious interest in Brogdon until the state of their roster and luxury tax bill becomes clear in the wake of a resolution to Kuminga's fate and the subsequent signings that have been long anticipated to bring Al Horford, De'Anthony Melton, Gary Payton II and second-round pick Will Richard into the Bay Area fold.
Jake Fischer: I think it's going to be important for both sides that Jonathan Kuminga is still active and eligible to be dealt once December 15th comes around. We saw Golden State be quick and aggressive in making trades last season very early into the trade window in December 15th by moving DeAnthony Melton right away for Dennis Schroeder to be able to reflip Dennis Schroeder later on down the line.
Anthony Slater: There is mutual interest in a reunion with De'anthony Melton, who played only six games for them last year before he tore an ACL, but it was a really good fit. Steph Curry likes him and another they want some extra shooting, another name I'm hearing with mutual interest Seth Curry actually as a potential bench shooting option with a family tie. And then you know, the other thing they need is they need youth. They need athleticism and they need scoring.
The key will be putting all that increased flexibility to good use and avoiding that second tax apron again. Freeing up the MLE helps for this summer, but among the remaining free agents, it’s hard to see many needle-movers left. Multiple sources confirmed the Suns’ next step after buying out Beal will be targeting a guard who can play on or off the ball, defend multiple positions and align with the toughness, energy level and basketball IQ Phoenix wants. Those sources also confirmed that a reunion with Chris Paul is highly unlikely, while De’Anthony Melton — someone who fits that description to a tee — is likely to return to the Golden State Warriors. Malcolm Brogdon is another combo guard who’s been linked to multiple teams, but beyond that, the crop of free agency guards includes Gary Payton II, Russell Westbrook, Markelle Fultz, Dalano Banton, Cam Payne and Ben Simmons.
The Warriors, eventually, could make a pair of impactful NBA free agency moves. Golden State has yet to add a player since the league’s free agency negotiating window opened on June 30, largely due to restricted free agent forward Jonathan Kuminga’s contract standstill, but whenever the transaction logjam breaks, NBA insider Marc Stein expects the Warriors to come away with two veteran free agents they have been tied to all summer. “My expectation is that one way or another, the Warriors are going to end up with both Al Horford and De’Anthony Melton on their roster,” Stein said Tuesday on 95.7 The Game’s “Willard & Dibs.”

Keith Smith: As part of the process to complete their offseason moves, the Brooklyn Nets renounced FA rights for LaMarcus Aldridge, Wilson Chandler, Mike James, De'Anthony Melton, Dennis Smith Jr and Ziaire Williams. Brooklyn will re-sign Williams with either cap space or the Room Exception.
Marc Stein: The Warriors have emerged as a strong contender to bring back De'Anthony Melton in free agency, league sources tell @TheSteinLine, in addition to Golden State's well-chronicled interest in signing Al Horford. More NBA from @JakeLFischer and me: tinyurl.com/nntuy4zf
The Los Angeles Lakers are expected to sign De'Anthony Melton in free agency. Melton signed a one-year, $12.8 million deal with the Golden State Warriors last offseason, but he suffered an early season partially torn ACL. "I haven't heard of anything new. We're still expecting him to eventually sign with the Lakers."
Dan Woike: Sources from three different rival teams have linked the Lakers to De'Anthony Melton here as we near the official start of free agency. Expectation is that there's strong mutual interest.
If the Lakers lose Finney-Smith, they are expected to show interest in De'Anthony Melton, who was only able to play in six games last season with Golden State due to an ACL tear and was traded by the Warriors in December to Brooklyn for Dennis Schröder.

Trading for Butler and expecting him to arrive supercharged for a run would mean at least a hint of a commitment to give him the contract that Pat Riley and the Heat were so unwilling. That hasn’t been appetizing to the Warriors, according to team and league sources. When gauging their interest in the evolving trade market, they are more often attached to players on mid-tier, more palatable contract numbers. It’s why they flipped De’Anthony Melton for Dennis Schröder’s expiring $13 million deal. Schröder’s contract can’t be aggregated in another trade until the day before the deadline.
While it's undeniably true that the Warriors can aggregate Schröder with other Golden State contracts in a new trade before the deadline — while the Nets possess the same ability with Melton — neither team can do so before Feb. 5. As in one day before the trade deadline. Feb. 5 and Feb. 6 are the only two days Schröder or Melton can be traded by their new teams in a deal that combines their contracts with other players. Both are eligible to traded at any time on their own in deals that do not combine their salaries with any teammates.

Golden State Warriors PR: The Warriors have acquired guard Dennis Schröder and a second round draft pick from the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for guard De’Anthony Melton, guard Reece Beekman and three second round draft picks.
