Washington Wizards: Update: Marvin Bagley III (illness) and Bilal Coulibaly (lower back strain) are now out for tonight's game. AJ Johnson and Khris Middleton have been upgraded to available

Wizards PR: The Washington Wizards have recalled G AJ Johnson from the @CapitalCityGoGo .
Josh Robbins: The Wizards have listed Kyshawn George (left big toe contusion) as questionable to play tonight in Philly. Out are: AJ Johnson (G League assignment), Tre Johnson (hip flexor), Corey Kispert (thumb), Khris Middleton (second night of a back-to-back), Alex Sarr (adductor strain), Jamir Watkins (two-way) and Sharife Cooper (calf).

As expected, the Washington Wizards soon will exercise their third-year team options on Bub Carrington, Kyshawn George, AJ Johnson and Alex Sarr and their fourth-year team options on Bilal Coulibaly and Cam Whitmore, team sources said. The options are for the 2026-27 season and are part of these players' rookie-scale contracts.

Josh Robbins: Bilal Coulibaly, who has been sidelined throughout camp and the preseason as he recovers from thumb-ligament surgery, will not be available to play in Wednesday's season opener, coach Brian Keefe said. AJ Johnson (bruise) has been cleared to play, Keefe said.

Tim Bontemps: Alex Sarr, CJ McCollum and Khris Middleton will sit out tonight on the second night of a back to back in the preseason for the Wizards. AJ Johnson and Bilal Coulibaly also remain out with injuries.

The Wizards, in the early stages of a rebuild, were happy to take Middleton’s contract in the swap, but that wasn’t the prize. That would be guard AJ Johnson, a 2024 first-round pick who fits the organization’s timetable. Washington also acquired a 2028 first-round pick swap. Another benefit for Washington: Middleton’s deal expires after next season while Kuzma’s runs through 2027, bringing the Wizards closer to having cap space. That desire for financial flexibility also prompted the move for McCollum, which a person with knowledge of the deal described as the next phase of the Bradley Beal trade.

Chase Hughes: Alex Sarr, Bub Carrington, Kyshawn George, Tre Johnson III and Will Riley are all OUT tonight against the Sixers, per the team. Johnson III is out with right hamstring tightness, Riley with left thumb soreness. They're day-to-day. Starters: AJ Johnson, Leaky Black, Dillon Jones, Jamir Watkins, Liam Robbins
