The WNBA last season had its most-watched regular season in 24 years and its best attendance in 22 seasons. Some of the league's most popular players currently are competing in a new 3-on-3 league in South Florida called Unrivaled, founded by Olympic gold medalists Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart. ''We carry this on for him,'' said Satou Sabally, a forward with the WNBA's Dallas Wings who plays for the Phantom squad in Unrivaled. ''He would be so proud of this league. He would be proud of 'Phe and Stewie. I know that he's looking down and hopefully he's smiling and is proud of us.''
Mike Vorkunov: Unrivaled, the new 3-on-3 basketball league co-founded by Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart, has reached a multi-year rights deal with TNT Sports and will air on TNT and TruTV. TNT Sports also invested in Unrivaled and taken equity in the league.
Shams Charania: Sources: Team USA women’s basketball roster for the 2024 Paris Olympics – no Caitlin Clark: A’ja Wilson, Breanna Stewart, Diana Taurasi, Brittney Griner, Alyssa Thomas, Napheesa Collier, Jewell Loyd, Kelsey Plum, Jackie Young, Sabrina Ionescu, Chelsea Gray, Kahleah Copper.
Shams Charania: Unrivaled – a professional women’s 3-on-3, six-team league co-founded by WNBA stars Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier – is setting the record for paying the highest average salary in pro female team sports history. Notable signings to be announced in near future.

Shams Charania: The new league begins its first season in January and will take place in the winter, which is opposite of WNBA season. The initial 30 players also receive equity ownership in the league.

New York Liberty forward Breanna Stewart and Minnesota Lynx forward Napheesa Collier told ESPN they are founding a new women's basketball league to give the top WNBA players another option for playing domestically in the offseason once the league's new prioritization rules go into full effect next season. The new league, called Unrivaled, would run from January through March and feature 30 of the top professional women's players on six teams, playing games of 3-on-3 and one-on-one at a soundstage in Miami.

The goal is to raise enough in private funding and sponsorships to provide the players commensurate pay with what they make during the WNBA season. That would help offset the lucrative contracts they'd be giving up overseas because of new league rules requiring players to return from international commitments by the start of WNBA training camps. "It's the ability for players to stay home, to be in a market like Miami where we can just be the buzz and create that with the best WNBA players," Stewart told ESPN. "We can't keep fighting [the WNBA's prioritization rule]. It is a rule that takes away our choices, which should never be a thing, especially as women, but it is still a rule."
Kevin Durant is recruiting Breanna Stewart to Brooklyn. The Nets star believes it would be “an incredible dynasty” if Stewart — the 28-year-old former MVP and two-time WNBA champion — were to join the Liberty. Both teams play at Barclays Center under the ownership of businessman Joe Tsai and his wife, Clara Wu Tsai. “Stewie come here, it’s going to be ridiculous,” Durant said on the Monday episode of his “The ETCs” podcast — which came the day after Stewart reportedly narrowed down her options to the Seattle Storm or the Liberty. Stewart has been with the Storm since they selected her with the No. 1 pick in the 2016 draft. “I hit Stewie [Breanna Stewart] the other day, and I never do this, and was like, ‘Yo, it would be an incredible dynasty in New York City if you came here.’ “I don’t think she’s seen it yet,” Durant said, adding that the Liberty are “cooking up” after acquiring former MVP Jonquel Jones in a three-team trade this month.
Prayers up for Breanna Stewart, who suffered a torn Achilles while playing overseas. Come back stronger. 🙏 pic.twitter.com/zxgfiTJEBc

CBS News recently caught up with five current NBA stars at the premiere of 2K Sports' NBA 2K19 and asked them two questions about the WNBA: Are they fans and who are their favorite players? Jayson Tatum: "I love the WNBA! I was just in Portland, Oregon, doing some Nike stuff and Kelsey Plum was there. Diana Taurasi and the shot she made [against the Seattle Storm]. A'ja [Wilson], I've known her for a long time. Brianna Stewart. They have a lot of great players."
