Shams Charania: The Grizzlies are releasing Johnny Davis to create roster space, sources said. Davis, the No. 10 pick in 2022, is expected to receive some interest as a free agent.
The Washington Wizards have chosen not to exercise their rookie-scale team options for next season on guard Johnny Davis and forward Patrick Baldwin Jr., a league source told The Athletic, setting the stage for Davis and Baldwin to become unrestricted free agents during the summer of 2025. The Wizards still will be eligible to re-sign Davis and Baldwin in unrestricted free agency, but Davis and Baldwin will have the freedom to join any team that wants to sign either of them.

The Wizards unsuccessfully tried to trade Patrick Baldwin Jr. or Johnny Davis in recent days to create the needed roster room to retain Jared Butler. As first reported by frequent contributor Keith Smith, Washington proved unwilling, however, to attach draft capital to such a trade and was thus forced to waive Butler on Saturday when no trade option materialized.
“The past two years,” Davis told The Athletic on Sunday night, “a development coach from each year has been tinkering with my shot, messing with it. So I came back into this year, and I said, ‘Nobody is touching my jump shot. I’m just going to leave it as it is, leave it comfortable.’ And they’ve left me alone about it. So, it feels really good right now. I’ve been working on it the whole summer, so I’m just glad to see it pay off.”
Josh Robbins: The Wizards' summer-league roster, as expected, will be headlined by first-round picks Alex Sarr, Bub Carrington and Kyshawn George. The roster also is expected to include Tristan Vukcevic and Johnny Davis. The Wizards' summer-league opener is scheduled for Friday at 9:30 p.m. ET
Josh Robbins: Deni Avdija (migraine), Johnny Davis (ankle) & Richaun Holmes (toe) are listed as questionable to play on Friday. Marvin Bagley III (knee), Bilal Coulibaly (wrist), Tyus Jones (back), Kyle Kuzma (sprained right ankle), Isaiah Livers (hip) & Landry Shamet (calf) will be out.
