Steve Prohm was the head coach at Iowa State and …

Steve Prohm was the head coach at Iowa State and coached Tyrese Haliburton for two seasons from 2018-2020. Prohm: The first thing that strikes people about Tyrese is his ability to interact with anyone. His charisma. I was no different. When I was the head coach at Iowa State, I went to Las Vegas in the summer to watch him play in a tournament. One of my assistant coaches had a relationship with Tyrese, but this was my first time watching him in person. I don’t think he ran up and down the floor more than three times before my assistant coach and I looked at each other like: We need this kid.

Harden knows his approach stands out from many of his peers. He spends offseasons in Scottsdale, works out at the university, and enjoys being on campus 16 years after being a student. “NIL nowadays is the most important thing, because kids want to be compensated for their play and their work, which makes sense,” Harden said. “I wanted to be a part of helping the team and the school get players … and if NIL is the problem, then I can help with that.” It’s clear that players like Harden view the returns on their investment differently. Hawks guard Georges Niang has contributed $100,000 annually to Iowa State’s We Will collective since NIL became legal in 2021, and he’s happy to try to help fund his alma mater’s success. Even so, he’s aware of the downside of his decision.

When I spoke with Iowa State coach Steve Prohm a few …

When I spoke with Iowa State coach Steve Prohm a few months ago, he told me that Haliburton’s best role in the NBA might be in more of an off-ball guard position. The Hawks need to figure out who will be their long-term two-guard. I like Kevin Huerter, but the defense next to Young is questionable right now. I know they’ve mentioned using Cam Reddish at the two, but he’s more of a three. I’ve talked with several people about Haliburton, and everyone raves about him. I seriously haven’t heard one bad thing about him, and the Hawks do like those high-character guys, so he would check that box.

Warriors likely taking Anthony Edwards if they land first pick

Sources have indicated to The Chronicle that, if the Warriors land the No. 1 pick and decide not to trade down, they’ll likely take Georgia’s Anthony Edwards. If Golden State lands anywhere between No. 2 and No. 5, it’ll strongly consider Iowa State’s Tyrese Haliburton, Auburn’s Isaac Okoro and Israel’s Deni Avdija, among others.
