Darryn Peterson: I fell in love with basketball as far back as I can remember. I was surrounded by it at a young age. My dad was the coach. Older brother played. All of my family members played. I was always around it. It was something I always wanted to do. The point when I felt like I could be NBA player was probably my first time going to the NBPA camp in Orlando, Florida (as a high school sophomore in 2022). There were a lot of guys that were older than me there that were projected to go to the NBA. I felt super comfortable and cool with all those guys. So, I saw my confidence grow and I felt like I could play in the NBA. I remember guys like Stephon Castle being there, Matas Buzelis, Jared McCain, all the guys that were ahead of me.
Jared McCain on Shai Gilgeous-Alexander: “For me, it was seeing how he was just in the off-season in general, off the court kind of stuff. He really keeps it simple and I really admire that and how much of a family man he is. A lot of it was just kind of seeing I worked with his strength coach out there and being able to see just that on-court, off-court, what time we were waking up and being able to work out with him was really cool for me.”

Clemente Almanza: Chet Holmgren on his offseason workouts and runs with Jared McCain: “There's not much incentive to involve each other on those runs if you don't actually play in the season with the guys you're out there with. When it was me and Jared, we didn't really care who was our team. We would just play 2-man games.”

I mean, we saw it last year, but where you really get to see it and notice it from guys is when you get into the offseason. He’s very intentional with his work, and it was great to be in the gym with him and get that work in.”

TMZ Sports ran into Jared McCain at LAX recently and asked if he'd considered dropping any OG tunes. "I probably wouldn't at the moment, no. I'm too focused on basketball right now. But you never know in the future. Maybe one day," McCain told us.
