By continuing to deny the ABA its legacy, the NBA has fallen behind its major-league brethren in formally recognizing its own sport’s history. In April 2025, the NFL decided to officially incorporate records from the old All-America Football Conference into its record book. The former rival organization to the NFL, which was in existence from 1946 until 1949, spawned scores of Hall-of-Famers and introduced the San Francisco 49ers, Cleveland Browns and an early version of the Baltimore Colts to pro football fans. All three franchises eventually entered the NFL.

Puka Nacua had some fun with the Giannis Antetokounmpo situation after the NBA trade deadline passed Thursday. During an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, the Los Angeles Rams wide receiver joked that the Milwaukee Bucks star and Cleveland Browns star Myles Garrett are similar because it's never fully clear if they want to be traded or remain with their current teams. "It's like, 'Oh, I don't want to be here,'" Nacua said. "And then, 'Hey, look, I'm back guys.'"

Shams Charania: Right now, the Bucks, their executives, their ownership, they're sorting through and they're sifting through trying to figure out is there an aggressive offer so far from one of these teams that have interest, Miami, New York, Minnesota, Golden State, is there an offer that rises to their threshold? And Jimmy Haslam, the Bucks owner, he said yesterday at a Browns press conference that this is what it's always been with the Bucks. What's best for Giannis Antetokounmpo? What's best for Milwaukee? We're going to figure it out. And does an offer and what value reaches that threshold? My understanding is Giannis is ready for a move whether it's now or in the off season. But there's been such a major difference in conversations going on in Milwaukee right now. On one hand, you're discussing Giannis trades and offers. On the other hand, my understanding is they're canvasing the league for potential cash deals and exchanging minimum salaries and talking about draft assets. So, what is that signal about their approach? The entire NBA is waiting because Giannis is the biggest domino whether it's right now or in the summer.

The Cleveland Browns introduced a new head coach, Todd Monken, earlier today. Browns owner Jimmy Haslam, who is also a co-owner of the Milwaukee Bucks, spoke with media members following today's introductory press conference and briefly addressed the prospect of the Bucks trading Giannis Antetokounmpo. "Giannis is a top three, top four player in the world," Haslam said. "He brought Milwaukee its first championship in 50 years several years ago, and he's a really good person too. He's no problem. He's a great leader, tries hard. "And I think Giannis and the Bucks — and I think this goes back before we were involved — have always worked closely to see what's best for Giannis and what's best for the Bucks, and we'll continue to do so. "

" While that doesn't give fans much insight into which way the Bucks might be leaning 48 hours before the Feb. 5 trade deadline, Haslam was also asked a follow-up question: What does a successful trade for Antetokounmpo look like, if there is one? "That's a question for (general manager) Jon Horst," Haslam replied.

Over the weekend, a new name was added to the victim list: Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders. While he was playing against Baltimore on Sunday at Huntington Bank Field, authorities say masked thieves broke into his suburban Cleveland home and took more than $200,000 worth of items. In a statement, Medina County sheriff’s deputies said thieves entered the home at 6:46 p.m. and left at 6:58 p.m., right around the time the Browns game against the Baltimore Ravens ended. Sanders played the second half, going 4 for 16 for 47 yards as the Browns lost 23-16. The thieves made off with “several high-value items,” police said.

Sources tell cleveland.com that youngster Evan Mobley will not play against the Heat because of a sore left knee that kept him from participating in shootaround. Mobley, who received treatment Friday morning and was wearing a sleeve around the knee, could be looking at a multi-game absence.

Sources tell cleveland.com that Cavs center Jarrett Allen will make his season debut Friday night against the Indiana Pacers. Point guard Darius Garland is also returning from a nagging hamstring injury, allowing Cleveland to finally unleash its expected starting lineup -- Garland, Allen, Donovan Mitchell, Max Strus and Evan Mobley.

Browns star pass rusher Myles Garrett has finalized a deal to purchase a minority stake in the Cleveland Cavaliers, the NBA team announced Wednesday. Garrett will also serve as an official brand ambassador for the Cavs. "As a leader on and off the field, Myles has become a Cleveland icon and shares in our organization's commitment to being a transformative force for good across the region," Cavs owner Dan Gilbert said in a statement. "We are honored to welcome this long-time friend of the team as our new partner and investor.

CEO and founder Mubarak Malik spent eight years in the Garden keeping the Knicks healthy, and Kyle Kuzma won a title while drinking it. “I’m very excited for an organization of first class like the Brooklyn Nets to carry us. It’s big,” Kuzma said. “They care about their players’ health and clearly (it shows) by making a move like that.” While Barcode supplies the Patriots, Browns and others, the Nets are the first official sports drink partnership they have with any NBA team. “It wasn’t like we were soliciting a bunch of different teams. The Nets branding just from the bottle (in) black-and-white, it’s New York City. I felt like they do a lot more grassroots initiatives with the kids. So it made sense,” Malik said. “The Nets are the first one we officially decided to partner with because of the synergy and the brand and what they were doing with inside their operations team.”
