Mac Engel: I asked Mavs coach Jason Kidd to address Mavs fans who feel like there is no hope without Luka Doncic. I could not believe his answer: “Trades happen. Some are comparing it to Babe Ruth, which is kinda cool.” Not sure he knows if the Mavs are the Red Sox.
Fenway Sports Group is not among the interested bidders for the Boston Celtics, multiple industry sources have confirmed to MassLive. The John-Henry led group, which also owns the Red Sox, Liverpool FC, the Pittsburgh Penguins in other sporting properties, was never seriously believed to be in the mix to buy the Celtics. On Monday, a story on NBC Sports’ Basketball Talk page characterized FSG as a group “expected to make a bid,” fueling rampant social media speculation. But nothing has changed since Red Sox president — and FSG CEO — Sam Kennedy threw cold water on the idea in September.
Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James, alongside Boston Red Sox owner Fenway Sports Group and RedBird Capital Partners, owner of the AC Milan Italian soccer club, have expressed interest in owning an NBA franchise in Las Vegas. So has Bill Foley, the owner of the National Hockey League’s Las Vegas Golden Knights. “We have a very powerful group — I can tell you money is not a problem,” Foley said. He added that his group includes “several well-known basketball players and a couple very wealthy people, people who can buy me and sell me 20 times over.” A person familiar with the matter said James “continues to be interested and in discussion with his partners at Fenway about the opportunity.” Fenway Sports Group declined to comment.
So far, no mega-billionaire suitors – like Amazon founder Jeff Bezos or Citadel boss Ken Griffin – have emerged, sources told The Post. John Henry’s Fenway Sports Group, which owns the Boston Red Sox, has expressed some interest but has yet to enter the fray, sources said. If he does get involved, Henry might prefer partnering with Pagliuca and combining the Celtics and Sox as opposed to going it alone, one source believes.
Fenway Sports Group has not made any overtures regarding a purchase of the Boston Celtics, per Rob Bradford of WEEI 93.7 FM. The sports holding conglomerate, whose principal owner is John W. Henry, includes ownership of the Boston Red Sox, Liverpool FC and the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Knicks’ new radio voice is coming from the Red Sox. Tyler Murray, a 34-year-old “lifelong Knicks fan,” is replacing Ed Cohen as the regular play-by-play announcer next season on ESPN New York Radio, MSG Networks announced Thursday afternoon.
There is a chance the Celtics and Red Sox may soon have the same owner. Boston Red Sox Owner Fenway Sports Group and RedBird Capital that partner closely with LeBron James are seriously considering bidding for the Celtics, sources close to the situation said.

In 2021, James and his long-standing business manager Maverick Carter swapped that stake in Liverpool for a piece of FSG itself, which made them co-owners of baseball’s Boston Red Sox and ice hockey’s Pittsburgh Penguins, too. Two years later, they were given more shares in FSG to deepen the bond.
TMRW Sports, the parent company of TGL, has thus far announced Los Angeles, Atlanta, and Boston as three of its six inaugural teams. The Atlanta club is owned by Atlanta Falcons and United owner Arthur Blank, while Boston Red Sox and Liverpool parent company Fenway Sports Group own TGL’s Boston team.

Jared Weiss: Joe Mazzulla said it was the assistant coaches’ idea to watch the ‘04 Red Sox doc. He was in high school at the time, so he’s learned more rewatching the doc since he doesn’t remember much from watching it back then.
Jared Weiss: Marcus Smart on the Celtics watching the '04 Red Sox doc after they went down 0-3: "It was beautiful. It was definitely special to watch, special to witness and to be able to have an opportunity to go out there and have our own 2004 ride. So we’ll see.”

Almost two years ago, it was reported that LeBron James and longtime friend and business partner Maverick Carter became minority owners in the Fenway Sports Group, which owns the Boston Red Sox. The Boston Globe reported that James and Carter were the first two Black owners in FSG. James has done so many remarkable things in his career and life that this purchase is low on the list.
