Quentin Grimes: You have to stay ready and keep preparing yourself. I was in the gym every night—getting my shots, getting treatment, watching guys like Kyrie and Klay—how they take care of their bodies, how they get up extra shots before and after practice. How disciplined they are with their routines—that really focused me. It changed my mindset. I knew opportunities were going to come, and I had to be ready for them.
Tim MacMahon: But I'm just telling you, there were Mavericks coaches who were not happy with another trade that the team made and weren’t shy to let me know about it. None of the Mavericks coaches were upset about the Grimes-for-Martin trade. They didn’t really value Grimes long-term, which is a long-winded way of saying: if he’s getting something around the mid-level, I think that would be a good deal for him.
Morey referred to an eventual solution with Grimes as the last piece of business the Sixers needed to get settled this summer. He was not willing to divulge many details about the team's ongoing negotiations with Grimes, other than... negotiations remain ongoing. "We hope to work things out," Morey said. "I don't have more detail."
Edgecombe’s ability to do that is the reason one scout believes he is better than restricted free agent Quentin Grimes, who’s seeking $25 million per season. One scout said Edgecombe can replicate what Grimes brings on the defensive end and compared the rookie to a young Victor Oladipo. He noted how Oladipo worked on his shot and blossomed into a two-time All-Star before injuries set in. Edgecombe doesn’t strike the scout as someone who is complacent about his game.

Kelly Iko: To this point, there has been little to no movement with restricted free agent guard Quentin Grimes and the Philadelphia 76ers, league sources tell myself and @Tjonesonthenba . The two sides are hoping to continue communication in the coming days.
The Sixers have been in contact with Quentin Grimes and his camp, although the price may end up being steep. Grimes, 25, is looking for a contract that averages $25 million per season, league sources tell The Athletic. He has emerged as a dynamic scoring guard, and he gives the Sixers a mix of the ability to shoot from the perimeter and get to the basket and put pressure on the rim off the dribble.
The early rumbles out of Philadelphia on Quentin Grimes' expected new deal: The restricted free agent is projected to land a starting salary of at least $16 million after his monster March.

Sources say Philadelphia has ongoing confidence in its ability to re-sign Quentin Grimes, but let's see. Ditto for the Bulls and Josh Giddey coming to terms on the five-year pact that the Aussie playmaker is said to be seeking which is routinely projected to land at no less than $120 million.
The Sixers, meanwhile, also continue to express confidence that they will be able to re-sign breakout shooting guard Quentin Grimes. The fourth-year guard, like all restricted free agents, heads into the summer marketplace knowing Brooklyn is likely to the be only team flush with cash to spend.
Retaining Grimes will clearly be the priority, and luckily for the Sixers the salary cap environment in the NBA this summer paves the way for them to not only re-sign the 24-year-old breakout guard, but do so on a contract that is team-friendly. But the key to fitting in Grimes, Yabusele, Kelly Oubre Jr. and a top-six pick is getting Yabusele on a deal that does not limit the team's flexibility. If he takes the taxpayer's mid-level exception, projected to be worth a maximum of two years and approximately $11.6 million, the Sixers would be able to spend whatever they needed to in order to re-sign either of their remaining key free agents. If it requires more money than that for the Sixers to re-sign Yabusele, they would need to dip into the non-taxpayer's mid-level exception. Doing so would initiate a hard cap at the first apron for the Sixers, at which point they could fit in Grimes, their first-round pick and possibly not much else outside of minimum contracts. Andre Drummond has a $5 million player option he will likely pick up -- perhaps a salary dump of what will then be an expiring deal could help the Sixers clear room under their hard cap if Yabusele's market grows.
