Tyler Nickel dropped six treys on 10 attempts Friday against the Nets, the lone positive in a blowout defeat that featured ugly performances from summer league vets Mohamed Diawara, Pacôme Dadiet and Dillon Jones. On Saturday, Nickel again was the Knicks’ leading scorer with 16 points on 6-for-14 shooting in 30 minutes in the Knicks’ 70-49 loss to the Spurs. “I definitely feel like I have some comparisons in the league. I feel like I’m a mix of some different guys: my size, my strength, my shooting ability,” Nickel said. “I feel really comfortable shooting off the move, so like [Detroit’s] Duncan Robinson, [Cleveland’s] Max Strus, [Boston’s] Sam Hauser. But then I have my own type of way of being. So it’s kind of a mix of a lot of people but also myself.”

Most likely to be traded: Guerschon Yabusele, Pacome Dadiet, Jordan Clarkson and Tyler Kolek. New York has been on the hunt for a proven ballhandler for its second unit and big-man insurance. To get either one of those without breaking up its core group, these are the names the Knicks would most likely have to part with. Dadiet, a recent first-round pick, doesn’t play and the Knicks, who are close to the second apron, can’t take in more money than they send out, so they might have to add another salary to Yabusele depending on who they trade for. The same goes for Kolek, except he’s shown some flashes here and there in Year 2. Clarkson is on a veteran minimum after getting bought out by the Jazz last offseason. He signed with the Knicks, expecting to play. However, he’s been out of the rotation. It feels more likely that Clarkson gets bought out than traded if he and New York part ways, but his salary could be useful in a small deal.

There was also trade chatter of a Yabusele and Dadiet package for Spurs forward Jeremy Sochan, but San Antonio was not willing to take on Yabusele’s $5.78 million player option for next season, league sources told HoopsHype.

Together, those two players will make $8.3 million this season. So, for example, New York could trade them for a player or players who make that exact amount.

You don't get a lot of playing time, and you're also part of a team that's competing for the title. There are a lot of players ahead of you. How do you manage to find a balance between learning from your more experienced teammates while remaining ready in case the coach decides to call upon your services? Pacôme Dadiet: Right now, I'm trying to arrive before everyone else and leave after everyone else. I also have the G-League to stay ready, to keep my rhythm. It's more about managing the mental aspect to be ready when they call my name. That said, is it difficult to put into practice? Pacôme Dadiet: It's definitely not easy, because I want to play. But that's part of basketball. It's not the first time I've been in this situation. I'm used to being a young player on a professional team. I know what it's like and I know how hard it takes to earn playing time.
