Addendum from me: I'm told that the Hawks are eager to see more of Young alongside versatile swingman Jalen Johnson — who was limited to 36 games last season before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury — as they make determinations about their big-picture future.
Anthony Slater: Part of the reason that the Warriors were hesitant to extend Jonathan Kuminga last summer. And while numbers were discussed and I think Jalen Johnson getting 5 years for 150 million gave a target that that you know obviously Kuminga and their their you know his representation they had ambitious thoughts about what it could be. I'm of the belief and I've been told that they would have taken five years for 150 million if it was ever on the table. It wasn't on the table.
Shams Charania: Executives in Las Vegas are closely watching and monitoring the future and status of Atlanta's Trae Young. He has two years left on his deal this upcoming season, but he has a player option in 2026. He can be a free agent next summer. It's going to be a much more flush market in free agency coming up. And listen, this is an Atlanta Hawks team that has made a ton of moves this offseason. Got Kristaps Porzingis. They can go several different directions with this team. They have a rising young team. They have guys like Jalen Johnson, Zaccharie Risacher. But the Hawks want to see how this team looks. Both Trae Young and Kristaps Porzingis are extension-eligible.
UCLA Basketball: 𝐀𝐓𝐋𝐀𝐍𝐓𝐀 𝐁𝐎𝐔𝐍𝐃!! 🗣️ Congratulations to 𝐊𝐨𝐛𝐞 𝐉𝐨𝐡𝐧𝐬𝐨𝐧 on signing with the @ATLHawks ❕ #GoBruins | @iamkobejohnson
Anthony Chiang: Hawks rule out Clint Capela, Jalen Johnson, Larry Nance Jr. and Kobe Bufkin for tomorrow's play-in game vs. Heat. Trae Young is probable with right Achilles tendinitis.

When you looked at Jalen Johnson’s trajectory when he was playing, what growth did you see in his game, and where could he ultimately be down the line? Trae Young: For Jalen, the sky’s the limit. I think it’s more about making sure he’s healthy and on the court. You can see what he can do. He can fly around, jump, and pass, and he’s gotten better at shooting. The ceiling is the sky. He has a big ceiling. He’s just got to be healthy and on the court.
What’s it been like being the leader on this team with young guys around you in Jalen Johnson, Dyson Daniels, and Zaccharie Risacher? Trae Young: It’s not new territory for me. People probably know that this isn’t the first time I’ve been a part of a team with young guys and where they wanted me to lead. I think this is really what they wanted me to do this year. Not focus on the wins and losses. It’s more about how I can bring the young guys along and build them up and build their confidence up as much as possible.
Jalen Johnson: I just wanna hoop man… 💔
Lauren L. Williams: For tomorrow’s Hawks vs. Hornets game: Questionable Caris LeVert (left middle finger sprain) Trae Young (left quad contusion) Out Kobe Bufkin (right shoulder surgery) Jalen Johnson (left shoulder surgery) Larry Nance Jr. (right medial femoral condyle fracture)
“When you’re in the league, you’re constantly learning about your body, how things may need to tweak here and there,” Johnson said. “So, I’m still learning things, learning new things. I got a great staff around me who provides great insight on things like that. So I just been trying to take knowledge from a lot of people, other athletes and stuff like that as far as you know, maybe what they do, I mean their preparation. But I’m confident in what I do, and I know I’ll get back to 100%.”
