Where do you see yourself fitting in with this Wizards team on both ends of the floor? Cam Whitmore: To make an instant impact on the floor offensively and defensively which I kind of stand out in the league from the defensive end you know? So as long as we’re dialed in on the defensive end then I mean we’re good.
What did you take away from your time with Ime Udoka and his emphasis on defense in Houston? Cam Whitmore: I mean you said it yourself on the defensive end. You can’t get on the floor without defense. When I first arrived in the NBA I really didn’t focus on that side of the floor but as time went on defense could make a big impact and you don’t even have to score the ball. You can rebound and hustle back on defense and get deflections you know? Just the little stuff that helps the team win.
What is something about your game or mindset that people might not know but should know? Cam Whitmore: That’s interesting. People think that I really do not pay attention or do not care about any outside noise involved with me. Of course I hear about it when my friends tell me about it but a lot of stuff happened in my life prior to the NBA world so ain’t nothing going to knock myself off my shoulders.
Michael Scotto: Cam Whitmore was nearly traded to the Phoenix Suns in the Kevin Durant trade, league sources told @hoopshype . Instead, Phoenix opted for more future second-round draft pick compensation. He averaged 10.8 points in 17.4 minutes in two seasons for the Rockets and turns 21 on July 8

Shams Charania: The Houston Rockets are trading Cam Whitmore to the Washington Wizards for two second-round picks, sources tell ESPN. The deal gives Whitmore a tremendous opportunity for an increased role as he turns 21 on Tuesday and returns to the DMV area.
Michael Scotto: Update: The Washington Wizards are acquiring Cam Whitmore from the Houston Rockets in exchange for a 2026 Chicago Bulls second-round pick and a 2029 Sacramento Kings second-round pick, league sources told @hoopshype .
Shams Charania: The Rockets worked with Whitmore, the No. 20 pick in 2023, and his reps at WME Basketball over the last few weeks on a new home. Whitmore has averaged 10.8 points over two years -- last season scoring 0.46 points per touch, 4th-best among players to record 1,000 touches.
Yossi Gozlan: Either way, I'd guess the Rockets trade Cam Whitmore and cut Jock Landale at a minimum. This allows them to fit Dorian Finney-Smith and Clint Capela at their reported numbers under the $195.9 million first apron hard cap.

Yossi Gozlan: Clint Capela's three year, $21.5 million contract can start as low as $6.9 million. Cam Whitmore's $3.5 million, or Landale guaranteed at $3.3 million, works straight up for Capela at that number in a sign and trade. That could be the deal from Houston's perspective.
Kelly Iko: Rockets third-year wing Cam Whitmore has been the subject of a number of trade discussions in recent days, sources tell @TheAthletic. Situation is best described as fluid right now.
A handful of teams have inquired about the availability of sparingly-used wing Cam Whitmore, league and team sources said. Since being drafted with the No. 20 pick in 2023, Whitmore has struggled to entrench himself in Udoka’s tight rotation and at times has expressed his displeasure at the end of the bench, but there is still optimism about his potential and rotation spot — having shown strong periods of play over the last two seasons. At this stage, neither Whitmore nor his representation has requested a trade and both sides are hopeful of finding a solution.
