Should the Bridges move scare the Celtics? …

Should the Bridges move scare the Celtics?  “ I mean you gotta prepare for that, “ said Scalabrine to Scoop B Radio.  “They didn’t give up much. When healthy and adding Bridges? They’re legitimate. “I think they’re a big time team, a big time defensive team since the OG Anunoby trade. His advanced analytics were off the charts. “Never ever will you ever hear an NBA team, player or anything say they’re scared of anybody but you have to keep an eye out on the Knicks. I think they’re legit.” On the Celtics side of basketball, Scalabrine says that Jaylen Brown’s dominance in the NBA Playoffs and the NBA Finals was a box office attraction. “You can say the next level is what he did in these playoffs,” said Scalabrine on Scoop B Radio.

But, Cassell has yet to get any serious consideration to become a head coach.  Why?  “It’s only 30 jobs available,” said Scalabrine.  “I don’t know why. But he’s shown how successful he’s been throughout all these years. I mean he’s been a part of winning teams. He coaches superstar players, he took players from this level and brought them up. He took Tyrese Maxey under his wing, Jayson Tatum under his wing. All these guys he helped out? If I was an NBA team, I would hire Sam in a second.”

Scalabrine discussed a host of topics including the origins of his White Mamba nickname. The former USC Trojan shared that the late great Kobe Bryant, owner of the Black Mamba nickname, had mini conversations with him over the years about the nickname over the years and shared that Bryant had no problem with it and that it is all love.  “So he hit me up on Twitter a couple times,” Scalabrine tells Scoop B Radio of the Black Mamba. He dapped me up in the last game I had in LA like one of his last games against the Celtics, but we never really discussed it. But I think he stamped it one time for me so I think I’m good.”

In an interview on The Mark Jackson Show released Tuesday, Perkins gave his side of the story and explained why he’s “pissed” at Scalabrine. While Perkins acknowledged he has criticized this era’s Celtics teams in the past as an analyst at ESPN, he also detailed why he does not have the same allegiance to Boston that other former players might. “I heard (Brian) Scalabrine the other day, and I love Scal, but he pissed me off,” Perkins said. “I never said I wanted to come. It wasn’t my moment, or 2008’s moments. It was 2024’s moment. Let them their moment.”

Awful Announcing

“No, no, no, no, no, no,” Brian Scalabrine said when asked if Perkins was invited to the Celtics’ latest championship celebrations. “Big scarlet letter. … It’s not really an open-arms thing with Kendrick Perkins.” It didn’t take very long for Perkins to respond, with the former Celtics center calling out Scalabrine during an appearance on 98.5 The Sports Hub’s “Felger & Mazz” Monday afternoon. “Right now I feel like Scal is a coward,” Perkins said.

Kendrick Perkins: “Was I the only 2008 member missing from the duck boat? No, I wasn’t. (Eddie) House, my guy, he was there. Leon Powe, great friend of mine as well, he was there. Scal was there and Paul (Pierce) was there. There was still 11 other guys missing. And to be honest with you, if I would’ve gotten an invite, which I didn’t — I didn’t know we was supposed to — but anyways, nine times out of 10, I would’ve turned it down. … That’s not our moment. That’s 2024′s moment. Let those guys have their moment.”

On the heels of Boston securing banner No. 18 with its series-clinching win over the Dallas Mavericks in Game 5 of the NBA Finals, Brian Scalabrine discussed the Celtics’ open-door policy. And in doing so, the former Boston forward revealed that at least one of his former teammates doesn’t seem to be as welcome around the Celtics facility as others are. “It’s not really an open arms thing with Kendrick Perkins,” Scalabrine said on his SiriusXM show, The Starting Lineup, with Frank Isola.

Awful Announcing

Brian Scalabrine was the first NBA player you met. How big of an impact has Brian Scalabrine been for you these last couple years? Cooper Flagg: I definitely think he had a big impact on me and influenced some decisions. Just ‘cause he knows what it takes, and at the time we didn’t know. We kinda had some doubts, and I think he kinda just filled me with confidence. He’s seen a lot of people, a lot of prospects. He’s been in the league. So he knows what it takes to get there, and he kinda instilled that kind of confidence in me, and it was really the first person from afar just telling me and pushing me forward and really just giving me that confidence.

How would the 2008 Celtics have approached the tournament? Brian Scalabrine said the players on that team would have embraced the chance to fight for another championship, especially one that would have beefed up their bank accounts. “We would have talked about it,” Scalabrine told The Athletic. “We wouldn’t have ignored it. And we would have told everybody we were trying to win that thing. And, to be honest with you, we would do it for the money. That’s how that group was.” Leon Powe agreed with his former teammate. “We’d have been happy (to have the In-Season Tournament),” Powe said. “We’d have been ecstatic. We would have wanted to get it done. We didn’t turn down no money. We didn’t turn down nothing.”

One time, Scalabrine said, Pierce offered Tony Allen $10,000 if he could properly say the plural form of moose. According to Scalabrine, Pierce pointed at a single moose and told Allen he would win the money if he could say the correct term to use if two such animals were together on top of a nearby car. As Scalabrine recalled, “Tony Allen said, ‘Them two mooses over there are on top of that car. Now give me my money.’” Needless to say, Allen did not collect the money that day. Powe said Pierce was always engaging Allen with such stunts. “He used to always do stuff to Tony Allen,” said Powe, who didn’t remember that particular incident. “Stuff like that.”
