Matt Barnes: But with new ownership—who’s obviously tied to Magic Johnson—and Magic is tied to Rob in the Commanders deal... do we smell what The Rock is cooking? Or am I crazy to think that Magic could be on his way back to the Lakers at some point? Maybe with Bob Myers—a fellow Bruin, the great mind behind the Golden State Warriors—who’s just sitting at home collecting checks, looking good on ESPN, owning NFL teams. As a Laker fan, what would you think?

Ellington isn’t the first athlete turned money man — it’s the plot of HBO’s series “Ballers” starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. But Ellington’s role as a current athlete taking on this side project is a little unusual. “This program is going to allow guys to learn about investing before actually putting in money,” Ellington said. “…Yeah, I mean, having skin in the game, obviously, is a huge part. I would never vouch for anything and I would never try to get guys to do anything that I’m not doing myself.”
It was fitting fan favorite Bobby Portis was in possession of the title belt on Thursday. He's known as "The People's Champ," which is also the nickname of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. During the parade, Portis had the belt upside down so it looked like an "M" instead of a "W," to recognize Milwaukee, similar to how WWE superstar The Miz wore it when he was WWE champion.
For James, his long and expanding relationship with FSG could eventually be that type of vehicle. James and business partner Maverick Carter first joined primary owners John Henry and Tom Werner in 2011 when he acquired 2% of Liverpool FC as part of a marketing deal with FSG. Now, James is in business with Redbird's Gerry Cardinale, who has a long history of making deals with sports teams such as the New York Yankees and the Dallas Cowboys and recently bought half of the XFL with partner Dwayne Johnson.

The Raptors have also discussed playing in Tampa Bay or Nashville or as tenants in another NBA team’s arena, according to a source. Kansas City pitched its T-Mobile Center. Louisville was floated and reportedly shot down. There’s been speculation about the team moving over the border to Buffalo, just like the Toronto Blue Jays during the last MLB season. While some of those destinations offer a warmer climate, none can match the geographical sense of The Rock.
The votes are in, and Tom Hanks, Dwayne Johnson, Oprah Winfrey and LeBron James have the most trusted opinions on political and social issues, according to a new survey of American voters. NBA star James was also cited for doing the most to raise awareness and motivation around voting in the general population and among Gen Z voters, and for having the most trusted opinions among Black voters.
The Bucks go on to defeat the Lakers 111-104 en route to a league-best 25-4 record. And while Milwaukee gets the win on the court, Matthews gets the win on social media. His pregame elbow gets #PeoplesChampApproved that night when The Rock retweets the video with the caption: "Love seeing these guys have fun! #1 in the conference. Confident, happy and hungry."
Dwayne Johnson: “I’d kill him” 😂👊🏾 Love this dude. It’s why he’s an @NBA beast & the Bucks are #1 in the E. But you don’t want this smoke, cuz I will slap your lips off into next week, son. And by that I mean, let’s just get a workout in and enjoy some tequila after 😂🙏🏾👊🏾.

Giannis on the challenge with @PlanetPat5 to The Rock: pic.twitter.com/ByKlenn0e1
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson answered back to Giannis Antetokounmpo’s invitation to come to Milwaukee and have a workout together by adding some… tequila in the mix. Giannis might pass on that drink, but he’ll be up for the workout challenge. After all, he’s a big fan of The Rock and it seems that Johnson also appreciates the Greek Freak’s game.

Teague’s love for pro wrestling is well documented, mostly by the point guard himself. He’s said many times wrestling is the only thing he watches on television. His last two non-reply tweets center on the WWE, the most recent coming in July about how the WWE Network “low key is the best thing out.” Teague notes his favorite era came in the late-1990s and early 2000s, when Steve Austin, Vince McMahon and The Rock were the stars of the ring. His all-time favorite wrestler is either The Rock or The Undertaker, depending on the day — Wednesday he sided with the People’s Champion (The Rock). His favorite match was a triple-threat tag-team ladder match between the Hardy Boyz, Teague’s beloved Dudley Boyz, and Edge and Christian. Edge and Christian won the match — there were multiple editions of this match, so the exact one Teague is referring to is unknown.
Taft has enlisted bold face names like singer Tim McGraw, action hero Dwayne Johnson and NBA star James Harden to advertise the shoes. The company has manufactured them in Spain, but with new investment and a boost from social media, it recently opened a factory in Portugal.
The first episode of Season 3 of Ballers (yes, I watch it, please stop judging) was kind of lackluster even as far as the HBO show goes but it did include one appearance from Steph Curry, who the cast mentioned was a 2-time MVP about 20 times. Curry, seen in shots with wife Ayesha heading to a plane, had a pretty quick cameo. But it didn’t stop him — and Ayesha — from dropping the names of two brands they support. Which to their credit, fits the show. The show is all about the intersection of sports, money and fame. And The Rock. It’s mostly about The Rock.
