Tall Blacks shooting guard Corey Webster will get another chance to impress in front of NBA decision makers. Webster has been invited to a free agent mini-camp with the Dallas Mavericks, two years after he played in NBA pre-season with the New Orleans Pelicans.
The Jazz entered training camp with 13 players – two below the regular-season roster limit – with guaranteed salaries. That seemingly made it unlikely three Utah players who belong in the NBA – Jeff Withey ($200,000 guaranteed), Elijah Millsap (unguaranteed) and Bryce Cotton (unguaranteed) – would all survive the preseason. But the Jazz cleared a spot by waiving Grant Jerrett, whose minimum salary was fully guaranteed fro this season.
The New Orleans Pelicans announced today that the team has waived guard Corey Webster. Webster, 6-2, 190, is a native of Aukland, New Zealand, who most recently played for the New Zealand Breakers of the Australian National Basketball League.
The New Orleans Pelicans announced today the team has signed free agents Jeff Adrien, Chris Douglas-Roberts and Corey Webster. Per team policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed. Jeff Adrien, 6-7, 245, appeared in 17 games last season for the Minnesota Timberwolves, where he averaged 3.5 points and 4.5 rebounds in 12.6 minutes per game before signing with the Guangdong Southern Tigers of the Chinese Basketball Association. In China, Adrien appeared in 11 games, averaging 13.6 points on .551 shooting from the field, 11.3 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game. Prior to his stint in Minnesota, Adrien was a member of the Houston Rockets’ preseason roster.

John Reid: New Zealand guard Corey Webster has definitely been extended an invite to the Pels' training camp with a non-guaranteed deal, sources say
Breakers and Tall Blacks shooting guard Corey Webster is one step closer to his dream of playing in the NBA. Webster has had his stay at the New Orleans Pelicans extended to take in the upcoming official pre-season training camp, which runs from September 29 to October 2. As such he has been signed to a three-year non-guaranteed contract by the organisation. "I am not there yet but this is another positive step towards my dream of playing in the NBA," Webster said from New Orleans. "The past week has gone well and the coaches have been impressed enough by the workouts to want me to stay for the training camp.
"We just want to wish Corey all the best and have him give this opportunity 100 per cent of his focus and become the first Breaker to progress through to the NBA." With the camp scheduled to take place from September 29th to October 2nd, Webster will opt to remain in the US in the interim and work further with the Pelicans training staff to ensure he's as prepared as possible.
Marc Stein: Besides Rasual Butler and Corey Webster, word is Pelicans are looking hard at Chris Douglas-Roberts for potential training camp invite
