Ex-NBA player Jeff Adrien is insisting he did NOT steal a car from a Hollywood hotel valet ... pleading not guilty in court moments ago. TMZ Sports broke the story... the former UConn star was arrested earlier this month after allegedly jacking a 2015 Mercedes from a parking attendant and taking it on a 6 hour joyride around Los Angeles.

We spoke to Adrien ... and he told us it was all a big misunderstanding ... saying he was trying to borrow a friend's car and got into the wrong one by mistake. 29-year-old Adrien was charged with one count of driving or taking a vehicle without consent. If convicted, he faces up to 3 years in county jail. He's due back in court at the end of January.

Jeff Adrien was arrested for allegedly taking a sweet 2015 Mercedes S550 from a hotel valet on Dec. 7th without permission from the actual owner.

Former NBA player Jeff Adrien was arrested Monday in Los Angeles on a felony car theft charge, authorities confirmed to USA TODAY Sports. Officers from Los Angeles Police Department’s Hollywood division arrested Adrien on a single charge of theft and unlawful taking or driving of a vehicle, according to LAPD spokesperson Jane Kim. He posted $25,000 bail later Monday.

We're told Adrien somehow got the keys to the Mercedes (even though he didn't have a claim ticket) -- and peeled off with the car. One source tells us Adrien went on a 6 hour joyride before RETURNING IT back at the hotel. Someone figured out what happened and informed the owner -- and Adrien was later arrested by LAPD for grand theft auto and taken to jail! He was later released on $25k bail.

The New Orleans Pelicans announced today the team has waived forward Jeff Adrien and guards Bryce Dejean-Jones and Bo McCalebb. Adrien, 6 feet 7, 245 pounds, appeared in three preseason games, averaging 6.3 points and 6.0 rebounds. Adrien was originally signed by New Orleans on Sept. 23.

The New Orleans Pelicans announced today the team has signed free agents Jeff Adrien, Chris Douglas-Roberts and Corey Webster. Per team policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed. Jeff Adrien, 6-7, 245, appeared in 17 games last season for the Minnesota Timberwolves, where he averaged 3.5 points and 4.5 rebounds in 12.6 minutes per game before signing with the Guangdong Southern Tigers of the Chinese Basketball Association. In China, Adrien appeared in 11 games, averaging 13.6 points on .551 shooting from the field, 11.3 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game. Prior to his stint in Minnesota, Adrien was a member of the Houston Rockets’ preseason roster.
