Simmons made his latest return to play this week near San Diego in Brooklyn’s preseason opener. He scored two points, grabbed two rebounds and had three assists and a steal in a 115-106 Nets loss to the LA Clippers. It was his first game since Feb. 26. “I’m excited, I’m excited to build with these guys,” Simmons told The Athletic after Tuesday’s game. “Obviously, we don’t have a team that’s been together too long, so it’s a new experience for me. A lot of younger guys. But I’m looking forward to building with this team. I think Jordi speaks about 1 percent each day, getting better, and everyone buying in and buying into the concepts and listening and seeing where it takes us.”

The Nets are going back to Cali — at least for training camp. Brooklyn — which will play the Clippers in the preseason — will hold part of the camp in Southern California, as it did three years ago. That Oct. 8 tilt will be at Frontwave Arena, home of the Clippers’ G League San Diego affiliate. The last time the Nets held camp in SoCal was back in 2021 when the Big Three of Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and James Harden had their initial camp together.
Q. That first meeting in San Diego when you were in the room with all of those guys, all Hall of Famers now of course, but they pretty much Hall of Famers then too. Did you feel like you belong there? Did you did you feel like you know ‘yeah, I deserve to be here (with the 1992 Dream Team)? John Stockton: Well I was there, I've never questioned it. If you make a team you don't ask why and clearly that was a thrill, those were guys that I had analyzed for the most part of my career and then had the opportunity to play with and against them on numerous occasions, and the luster of that had worn off. They weren't ‘oh my gosh!’ at that point, but they were still legends of the game, and guys that I was so looking forward to playing with.

The new Frontwave Arena in Oceanside, about 30 miles north of downtown, is the county’s first non-college basketball venue to be built since 1966 (San Diego State christened Viejas Arena in 1997 while Univ. of San Diego opened Jenny Craig Pavilion in 2000).
With fans expressing such affection for the name -- derived from clipper ships and naval vessels that dot the coast off of San Diego, the team's original California home -- team officials decided it was best to keep the name and tether any new art to it. They wanted a makeover that would stay true to the Clippers' traditional name, colors and iconography. Focus groups and respondents to those fan surveys repeatedly expressed optimism that the franchise was in good hands under Ballmer, officials said.

Will people be unable to watch games? No. The NBA insists that, like Major League Baseball did with San Diego and Arizona, it will make sure games remain on the air for fans to watch. Teams across the league are already beginning to plan for the possibility that they might need an alternative to their RSN deal, depending on how things play out with Bally's, in particular. One example of a potential alternative is Scripps Sports, which has signed deals in recent months with several teams, including the NHL's Los Angeles Kings, Vegas Golden Knights and Arizona Coyotes.
How was LeBron James’ minicamp in San Diego? Gabe Vincent: “It went well. It was good to get everything in the same building and get a little jumpstart. It’s about the times we got together on the court. We had some dinners and did some things off the court to try to bring the team closer together bit by bit. But it was great to get everyone in the same building and compete a little bit and work on our games. It was fun.”
