Q. Who was your first opponent last year to like make your first like holy sh*t kind of blew you away moment? Did you have one? Kon Knueppel: "We played OKC in the preseason. So I would say that all of a sudden I was guarding SGA in transition and I was like, man, I have no chance. The footwork, it was not even like, I don't know, it was a preseason game and I was like, oh my goodness. I picked this guy up. I was looking, I was like, is somebody else coming to pick him up? And I was like, all right, I got him."

The Hornets want to keep veteran swingman Connaughton just like the Mavericks want to keep Powell. But the young Hornet who appears to be in the most serious jeopardy if Charlotte does retain Connaughton is recent No. 6 overall pick Tidjane Salaun. The 6-foot-10 forward is just 21 and I've heard from more than a few folks that the first draft pick of the Jeff Peterson Era in Charlotte has taken some real strides this summer. Yet it's also true that Salaun realistically projects to be a rotation player at best at this stage after the Hornets once believed he had a star-level ceiling. And Connaughton is known to be a Kon Knueppel favorite who brings undeniable locker room value to Charlotte's team.

Sam Perley: Grant Williams says he and Kon Knueppel got injured on the same day during team runs. "It's a hamstring, it happens, but I'm super excited to get going."
Sam Perley: Kon Knueppel says he's "progressing really well right now" following his recent hamstring injury. Says he initially thought it was a cramp. "I'm going to do my best to get myself prepared for [Opening Night]." Knueppel missed only 1 game last year and none in college.
