James Ham: According to a league source, the Kings are set to acquire Dennis Schroder using part of the $16.8m TPE from the Kevin Huerter trade. Deal should be completed in the next day or so. Kings will acquire a future second. Detroit lands a trade exception.
He was asked whether finding new life with the Bulls was a bit of a message to the Kings and Hawks and admitted that might have been the case a couple of months ago. ‘‘It’s not something I think about too much,’’ Huerter said. ‘‘It might have been something when I first got here, trying to prove myself again. At this point, it’s not something on my mind.” What is on his mind is putting down some roots, especially with a core that mostly might return and gets along as well as this one does. ‘‘I’ve said this before: It feels like a younger locker room,’’ Huerter said. ‘‘You talk about Matas and his personality, just the way he can kind of pull guys together. He’s continuously talking. I had to remind myself that Patrick Williams is 23 and Josh is 22, so it feels like a young locker room. Guys are kind of goofy.’’

KC Johnson: Josh Giddey in Kevin Huerter in Jalen Smith gametime Vs. Heat, per Donovan
Anthony Chiang: Bulls injury report for tonight vs. Heat: Out: Lonzo Ball, Dosunmu, T. Jones. Questionable: Josh Giddey, Kevin Huerter, J. Smith. Probable: Nikola Vucevic.
The decision was made to sit Nikola Vucevic (calf/injury management), Coby White (rest), Josh Giddey (wrist) and Kevin Huerter (neck), despite the Bulls entering the evening just ½ game in front of Miami at the No. 10 seed and a game behind suddenly sinking Atlanta for the No. 8 seed. The Heat were idle and play in Chicago Wednesday night and the Bulls do own the tie-breaker, but the Hawks lost to Orlando, so it was an opportunity lost. And the kicker was according to a source, three of the four Bulls starters wanted to go, but were overruled by medical. Huerter was the only one that was seriously hampered by his injury but was still looking to return against Miami.
Shooting is a mental game. And in early stretches of this season, Huerter was simply out of sorts. He had fallen deep into the Kings rotation and couldn’t kick-start his game during limited stints. With the Bulls, his improved accuracy mirrors an improved mindset. “I think mentally I’ve definitely gotten over a hurdle with that,” Huerter said. “I’m just continuing to get comfortable and get back to playing the right way.”
