Bobby Marks: As part of the trade, Charlotte is acquiring Vasilije Micic, sources tell ESPN. Micic was traded to Phoenix in February as part of the Jusuf Nurkic trade. His $8.1M team option will get exercised by Phoenix.

Jusuf Nurkic is returning to the senior national team of Bosnia-Herzegovina for a second EuroBasket appearance. After the end of the 2024-25 NBA Regular Season, he confirmed plans to suit up for his country in the EuroBasket 2025. “I’m looking forward to play,” the 30-year-old center of the Charlotte Hornets stressed in an end-of-season press conference on Monday, “We have a really good group of people and players. I really believe we can do special things there. We have a minimum of five games, and we go from there. We may start camp in July, and competition starts in August.”
Which is among the many reasons Nurkic, who got the starting nod in Sunday’s 93-86 loss to the Boston Celtics at TD Garden in the 2024-25 regular-season finale, doesn’t want to go anywhere else. And he made that crystal clear. “Hopefully, it’s a two-way street and the organization feels the same way, but so far so good,” Nurkic said. “Hopefully, we can build something special for years to come.”
Multiple sources informed PHNX Sports throughout the season that Mike Budenholzer was difficult to work with or even communicate with — sentiments echoed by Arizona Sports’ John Gambadoro, not to mention Jusuf Nurkic‘s famous (likely exaggerated) comments about not speaking with Budenholzer for two months, or multiple players off-handedly citing his “old school,” “tough” approach.
Chris Haynes: Then there was another meeting that happened, you know, during the—um—I want to—it was before the trade deadline, obviously. It was a meeting he had with Jusuf Nurkić, who they ended up trading to the Charlotte Hornets. But I was told that in a meeting, he told Nurkić that he was a bad teammate. This is how sources related to me told it—told Nurkić that he was a bad teammate, and he was somebody who refused to set quality screens. And I was told Nurk took that as mad disrespect. He took that as mad disrespect. The reason why is—he prided himself on setting quality screens.
There was drama. Before the season, Budenholzer had traveled to Croatia to meet Jusuf Nurkić, a relationship-building move that impressed the veteran center. Nurkić slimmed down and worked on his 3-point shot to fit better within Budenholzer’s offensive system. But after a rough start, Budenholzer benched Nurkić and removed him from the rotation. Nurkić told reporters that Budenholzer never shared with him the reasons behind the moves and that the relationship he and Budenholzer once had was gone. The Suns later traded Nurkić to Charlotte.

Jusuf Nurkic, currently playing for the Charlotte Hornets, shared his thoughts on the NBA's European expansion and how it could affect the sport internationally. "I think it's a great thing; it'll give players more opportunities and freedom to choose their teams," the Bosnian big man told Toni Canyameras from El Mundo Deportivo. "And I think when the NBA comes, everyone should be respectfully concerned because we know how the people here in the NBA and Adam Silver put things together. I think it will be a really good league. I hope it doesn't make the EuroLeague disappear because it's a great competition and there are great atmospheres."
Rod Boone: LaMelo Ball and Mark Williams are not on the injury report for tomorrow's game in Miami. Jusuf Nurkic is probable.
Rod Boone: Josh Green (Illness) has been downgraded to out tonight vs. Minnesota. The bug that got Jusuf Nurkic, Taj Gibson and Miles Bridges has now got Green, too.
What are you going to try and instill in the young guys as a veteran? Jusuf Nurkic: I’m still young. I just turned 30 this past summer. I feel like I’m in my prime, and I can do a lot of things. We’re in a position where we can win some games, and I want to be out there with the players trying to win games.
