Yossi Gozlan: Realistically, the Cavaliers can keep two of Donovan Mitchell, Evan Mobley, & Darius Garland in the long run. This trade would indicate their commitment to Mitchell, who can extend this summer for up to four years, $273 million. FWIW, Harden expires in time for Mitchell’s next deal.

Evan Mobley will be out between one and three weeks due to a strained left calf. Mobley suffered the injury on Monday as the Cleveland Cavaliers defeated the Orlando Magic by a final score of 114-98.

The Cavs have received offers for swingman De’Andre Hunter — last year’s deadline prize who is in the midst of one of the worst statistical seasons of his career and keeps trying to adapt to a midseason role change. There remains strong interest in free-agent-to-be Dean Wade. Opposing teams have also been wondering if Cleveland has any appetite for breaking up the Core 4 — Darius Garland, Donovan Mitchell, Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen. To this point, Cavs decision-makers have made it clear they aren’t interested in a drastic shake-up. They still think highly of this group and see a pathway back to the top of the wide-open Eastern Conference. They also want to evaluate this roster closer to full strength, believing their prospective rotation — with Garland getting closer to returning from a minor toe injury, the emergence of second-year forward Jaylon Tyson and Max Strus’ eventual comeback from offseason foot surgery — stacks up with anyone in the East.

Danny Cunningham: #Cavs beat the Kings 123-118 in a game that probably shouldn't have been as close as it was, but still counts as a win. Evan Mobley was outstanding. He finished with 29 points, 13 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 blocks. Donovan Mitchell had 33 points, 5 boards and 8 assists. Cavs move to 26-20 on the season. They're back in action tomorrow in Orlando.

Cavaliers defeat Timberwolves 146-134 behind 50 combined points from Donovan Mitchell, Darius Garland. Evan Mobley added 24 points on 11-of-16 shooting. Anthony Edwards had 25 points, Julius Randle 20 in the defeat for Minnesota.

With max contracts being paid to Mitchell and Evan Mobley and the Cavaliers above the second apron, rival executives will continue to gauge Cleveland’s appetite for the possibility of changes – particularly on Garland and Allen – if the team continues to underperform due to the roster’s salary books.
Duane Rankin: Suns big Mark Williams on one-game suspension for dust up with Jose Alvarado in win over Pelicans: "I don't know what I'm supposed to do in that situation. He grabbed me, pushed me. I don't think what I got is just. I'll appeal it, but it's over, we're past it." On facing bigs Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley in Suns loss to Cavs: "Just trying to balance the guards are getting downhill, when they're passing vs. when they're going up. They got a couple of easy drop offs. I think that got them going."

Oh No He Didn't: John Wall on the Cavs: "I think they gotta make a big change. Donovan Mitchell, Darius Garland are just not getting along in that backcourt and I think with Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley they're just too soft"

Shams Charania: Cleveland Cavaliers All-Star Evan Mobley (calf strain) will return to action Christmas Day against the New York Knicks (12 pm ET, ABC/ESPN), per sources. Mobley, who has been out 13 days, is averaging career highs 19.1 points and 4.1 assists to go with 9.3 rebounds per game.

That leaves Matas Buzelis, 21, as the power forward by default. It’s not necessarily a bad thing on most nights, but it’s not exactly a matchup coach Billy Donovan looks forward to when the Bulls are taking on people-movers such as Zion Williamson or Julius Randle. “In fairness to Matas, there are matchups that are tough,” Donovan said. “He’s a second-year player that’s only going to get stronger, bigger, and as he matures, those matchups probably will be easier physically. ‘‘When he’s having to go hypothetically against a Julius Randle or an Evan Mobley, those guys are playing close to the basket, and they’re really physical. Those are tough matchups for a second-year player like Matas. So if you can get him to small forward for some of the game — not all of the game — I don’t mind playing Matas with two bigs. I never looked at Matas as a big.”
