Q. What's your least favorite city? Everybody's got to have one. Derrick White: Yeah. Memphis probably. I mean, the hotel is probably the worst hotel in the NBA. The food there is good though. I don't know if it's the healthiest for you, but the food actually is really good. But yeah, Memphis it's a tough hotel to be in especially like the Four Seasons and you go like to the Westin, you're like this is it's not the same. Yeah, that's probably my least favorite hotel.

Derrick White: The third extension was much much more relaxed. Not down to the wire. I didn't want to play nowhere else. Like I wanted to be in Boston. I've always said that. It was pretty simple, pretty straightforward. And so, signing that I was super excited just to stay in Boston, to continue to be a Celtic, hopefully do great things in Boston. More years in Boston. Like, this is this is what I want and so this is what my family wants. Boston has been good. My kids were born in Boston, I kind of developed as a player in Boston and that's really what it was about, it’s like what's going to make me happy? And I knew that was going to be in Boston. I love it in Boston.

This offseason, the Raptors discussed trades for Kevin Durant, Jrue Holiday and Derrick White, which followed their February acquisition of Brandon Ingram. Derrick White: "No, Blake's unbelievable. That year, he kind of kept us all together. Like, he can get along with every person. He can be serious, he can joke, he can just do a little bit of everything. And it was awesome, ’cause, like—this is Blake Griffin. However many All-Stars, All-NBAs—he's done so much in this league—and he was willing to sacrifice. He was willing to take the first bus and do what he needs to do, like he was a rookie or a young player. And he didn’t have to do that. He just kind of made everything connected. We were able to stay together because of Blake. But yeah, everybody wanted him to come back. I mean, he’s an unbelievable player.

Derrick White: One thing I remember is—we were at dinner or something—and he pulled me aside and was like, ‘You—I didn’t realize how good you were until I was on the team with you.’ He’s like, ‘You know, you play someone every now and then, and you don’t really know. You’re not watching every game.’ He’s like, ‘I had no idea.’ And I was like, ‘Oh, thanks, Blake.’ That gave me a lot of confidence—reassurance, I guess. Like, Blake believed in me. I’m doing something right. He didn’t have to do that, but he pulled me aside and told me. So that was dope."

The Boston Celtics appear poised to elevate Payton Pritchard into the starting lineup while using Anfernee Simons as a high-scoring option off the bench for the 2025–26 season if he remains on the roster, sources informed FastbreakJournal.com. So there's like a one there's like one and a half minutes left and I get up and I'm like all right whatever forget it like let's go. So I'm walking out and I walk out with Joe. I'm like what' you talk about in the locker room? He's like just win the game. And so I'll just go out there and we play. And I didn't really think about it too much except when like people would ask like let me see your tooth."

Derrick White: There are guys on the team that have been giving me giving me hell about not having a technical foul. Jayson Tatum told me he doesn't respect me until I get a technical. We'll see. We'll see. Not against him, but I'm not going to go out of my way to get one. I'm going to get ejected. Q. Like Jordan Walsh? DW: Yes. I watched Jay Walsh in the summer league. I got inspired, and yeah, I think Jay Walsh was the only person to get ejected in summer league this year and so it's always great to be the only person to do something. So, congrats on that, Jay.

Derrick White on Kevin Durant: “Olympic KD is so cold. Before, I told people — imagine running as fast as you can, jumping as high as you can, reaching as high as possible, and not being close to the ball. That’s every KD jumper. I’ve always wanted to block his shot — never have. At the Olympics, he was hurt at first, rehabbing. Practiced the day before the Serbia game, knocking off rust. Then comes in as sixth man KD — unbelievable. Hit a fall-away at the halftime buzzer — I told him, you’re one of the coldest ever. In close games, we’d just give KD the ball up top — whatever shot he wants. He’s a hooper 24/7. First thing he asked me was why I wasn’t practicing. I said they’re taking me slow. He’s like, you’re a hooper — just go hoop. Simple. He loves the game. There’s nothing you can do when he’s in that mode."

Derrick White on United States opening ceremony at Olympics: ‘We’re on the boat a while before it even takes off. It starts raining, I grab the poncho. Then I see people going to the front where LeBron and Coco are. I’m like, nice spot. They tell me to move because they’re flag bearers. I end up next to a big sign with French writing. I duck under it and see it says ‘United States of America.’ I think, they don’t need this — it’s obvious it’s us. Sabrina’s next to me saying, ‘You’re fine.’ I’m having a great time. After, my phone’s blowing up — people saying there’s no way I stood in front of that sign. The poncho was lit up around my head. Someone even photoshopped me out so it said USA. We laughed as a team. I wasn’t trying to be there, but I had a great spot for the opening ceremonies of the Olympics."

Derrick White: “The night we won the championship was the first time I said something about the Olympics. We were in the playoffs when I saw a tweet saying if Kawhi couldn’t go, I might be a possibility. My agent didn’t bring it up — we were focused on the playoffs. Then we won. I was in the hallway like, ‘Mike, am I going to the Olympics?’ He’s like, we’ll see. In that moment, I was like, I’m going. But then I didn’t hear anything. They said Kawhi was at training camp in Vegas, so I thought I wasn’t going. I moved on. Then, later, USA called. I had to go. Missed our huge 30th birthday trip to Mexico. They had a life-size cutout of me at the party. I paid for the whole weekend for everyone, even though I wasn’t there. Wasn’t cheap. But I had to go win a gold."

Campers at Sierra High School locked in on Derrick White as he explained his method for playing defense in the NBA. Nearly 100 kids focused as White held a microphone in his left hand while demonstrating with his right how to disrupt an opposing player from making a basket. It’s one of many lessons White hoped to infuse in the first through eighth graders who attended the Derrick White Basketball Academy camp Saturday in conjunction with Hillside Connection.

The eight-year NBA veteran boasts an Olympic gold medal and an NBA championship. That’s not just a résumé White is proud to have, he believes his success allows others to recognize their capabilities. “I’m from Colorado and they can see a kid from Colorado made it and say, ‘Why not me?’” White said. “I saw Chauncey (Billups) do it and I know it’s possible. Hopefully one of these kids sees me and what I’ve managed to accomplish and they’ll think it’s possible to reach their dreams, whatever that might be.”

Derrick White: Pop walks into the room, and he’s like, 'Uh, we traded you.' And I’m like, 'Shut up, Pop.' We got Pop up here somewhere— For real, shoutout to Pop. We love that guy. But yeah, Pop calls me: 'What room are you in?' It’s trade deadline, so I’m like, 'Oh, where am I going?' He knocks on the door, sits down in my room, and goes, 'Hey, uh, we traded you.' Doesn’t say anything else. I’m like, 'To where?' And he goes, 'We wouldn’t f*ck you. We sent you to Boston.' I just played that summer with JT, JB, and Smart. So I knew a bunch of people there. He’s like, 'You’re going to be comfortable. They’ll kind of bring you along.' And I’m like, 'All right, yeah, that’s cool.' I thought I’d fit well there, but also like—What? Why? What did I do?"
