Law Murray: Tyronn Lue says that roster is healthy and went through practice today in LA today Traveling to Colorado this afternoon.
The game of basketball has taken King and White from Boulder, Colorado, to all over the world. White played for USA Basketball in the 2023 World Cup and on their gold medal winning team during the 2024 Paris Olympics. White and the Celtics also played preseason games against the Denver Nuggets at Abu Dhabi Games 2024. As for King, he had short stints with the Phoenix Suns and Dallas Mavericks and in the G League, but of late has played overseas. King currently is a guard for Egypt’s Al Ittihad who opened the 2025 BAL season with a 71-60 win over host FUS Rabat on April 5. “I haven’t talked to him about playing in Africa, but I definitely will,” White said about King. “But I just think it’s amazing that he continues to get better and continues to put so much work into the game. A lot of people that go overseas sometimes lose their love for the game. But I think he just fell more in love with the process and the things he needs to do to keep his body healthy. It’s great to see.”
King first joined Colorado’s basketball program during the 2013-14 season. White transferred to Colorado from Division II University of Colorado Colorado Springs in 2015 and redshirted his first season with one year of eligibility remaining. King didn’t see anything during White’s redshirt season that suggested he could be an NBA player. King added that White was quiet and focused on adjusting to Division I basketball. “I knew that he was good. I knew that he had size and athleticism. But did I see what he is now? An Olympian? I did not personally. And that’s just God, and that’s a testament to him and his game,” King said about White.
So, as Team USA began training camp in Las Vegas, Derrick White and his father, Richard, were busy preparing for the annual Derrick White Basketball Academy, a week-long basketball camp held for kids in Parker, Colorado. “A month ago, they said that if Kawhi was unable to play, he’d be on the shortlist to be called up as a replacement,” Richard White told CelticsBlog in an exclusive interview. “Then, when Kawhi showed up at camp, he kind of thought like ‘this was never going to happen.’”

A product of Parker, he has made the NBA All-Defensive team in consecutive seasons. Now he’s a first-time champ after averaging 15.2 points on one of the best statistical starting lineups in recent memory. During a week of celebration, several of his former teammates shared memories of White’s Colorado beginnings. “I think he’s the new Chauncey Billups,” high school teammate Avery Carlson said. “He’s the new face of Colorado sports that really takes pride in where he’s from.”
Tennessee wing Dalton Knecht might go in the top 10. Providence guard Devin Carter just tagged an impressive junior year with some strong testing at the draft combine. Purdue center Zach Edey is one of the most interesting players in the draft and projected to be a fringe lottery pick. Marquette point guard Tyler Kolek, Colorado forward Tristan da Silva and Creighton wing Baylor Scheierman are all projected first-round picks who could land higher than expected on draft night. That will again bring an important question to the forefront as teams make their decisions: Does age matter in the draft?

Denver Nuggets forward Michael Porter Jr. said his teammates have had his back in recent days amid the sentencing of his younger brother Coban Porter to six years in prison for a drunken driving crash that killed a woman in Colorado last year. The sentencing Friday came just two days after another of Porter's younger brothers, Jontay Porter, was banned for life from the NBA amid a betting scandal. "Definitely tried to compartmentalize, some bad and sad stuff happened to a couple of my brothers. But I got you know 15, 16 more brothers in here, so I knew I had to be here for them and come in here and do my job and try to prepare to do it at a high level," Porter said Saturday night after his Nuggets went up 1-0 in their first-round series against the Los Angeles Lakers.
Mike Trudell: After Thursday’s practice, Darvin Ham said the Lakers got into the film room today and looked at some Denver game tape to highlight a few areas for improvement from previous matchups. The team will head to Colorado tomorrow ahead of Saturday’s Game 1.
Colorado State’s Nique Clifford announced Wednesday on social media that he has declared for the NBA draft. The Colorado Springs native played one season at CSU after three years at Colorado.
Toronto Raptors center Jontay Porter owned and operated a VIP account at FanDuel in Colorado that wagered millions of dollars in total from 2021 to 2023, multiple sources with direct knowledge told the Action Network. One of those sources said FanDuel did not accept any wagers on the NBA or college basketball from Porter, whose brother, Michael Porter Jr., is a pivotal member of the Denver Nuggets team that won the NBA championship in 2023. Porter allegedly placed over 1,000 wagers at the sportsbook. “He was firing all of the time,” a source said.
