Jake Fischer: As we discussed, I think the Celtics are still very active in taking trade calls—maybe even making trade calls. There was some conversation last week between Memphis and Boston about something. We’re still looking to track down more info on that. But rival teams are definitely still under the impression that Boston is looking for deals involving both Anfernee Simons and Georges Niang:
Bobby Manning: Brad Stevens on the broadcast talking losses: "It's part of this new CBA and obviously the 2nd apron... We're lucky to get the guys that we got back in those trades, specifically Simons and Niang." "When they come back to Boston this year, it'll be pretty special, the tributes"
The Boston Celtics are continuing to be active in trade talks as they are evaluating their options on moving Anfernee Simons to another team after acquiring him from the Portland Trail Blazers as part of the Jrue Holiday deal. Simons, who is represented by Bill Duffy, is on an expiring contract worth $27.7 million. "I have talked to other teams who have said they are actively trying to trade Anfernee Simons," said Brian Windhorst on Wednesday's Hoop Collective Podcast. "Whether they can or not is another [thing]."
Bobby Manning: Brad Stevens said Anfernee Simons’ shooting is elite and he’s getting better. Notes Georges Niang’s winning and that “he’s a pain to play against, which I admire.”
Sean Highkin: The Anfernee Simons-Jrue Holiday trade is now official, without the previously reported second-round picks going from Portland to Boston. The final deal is a straight 1-for-1 player swap.

If there is any further trade activity to monitor in Boston, league sources say that Anfernee Simons is a possible re-trade candidate after the Celtics acquired the high-scoring guard from Portland in the Holiday deal. By contrast I haven't heard any credible buzz about Sam Hauser's inclusion in serious trade conversations.
Looking to continue shedding salary, the Celtics have explored the idea of flipping Anfernee Simons’ $27.7 million expiring contract, according to league sources. In such a move, they would be aiming to accomplish two organizational directives Brad Stevens emphasized after the first round of the NBA Draft on Wednesday: regaining more roster flexibility and setting up a path to retain free agents Luke Kornet and Al Horford.
The Celtics have already had an active offseason, but Stevens set the stage for more activity after the draft when he said he wants to retain Kornet and Horford. The team currently has minimal flexibility under the second apron and would need to cut even more salary to keep both big men while avoiding the tax.
Senate Republican Leader Daniel Bonham (R-District 26) clearly loves the Portland Trail Blazers, but he wasn’t too thrilled with the team’s recent trade ahead of Wednesday night’s NBA draft. The Oregon Senate unanimously approved HCR 40, a resolution recognizing the importance of the Portland Trail Blazers to the state, on Tuesday.
While doing so, he criticized the pending trade announced Monday, sending guard Anfernee Simons, 26, to the Boston Celtics for guard Jrue Holiday, 35. The trade can’t be finalized until early July. “Interestingly, last night I was watching the news and I saw that we traded Anfernee Simons,” Bonham said while stroking the side of his head. “And I thought, darn it, anyway, I’m gonna carry this bill tomorrow talking about my hometown team, wanting to stay in Oregon, and I think they just did something crazy.”

Yossi Gozlan: The Boston Celtics have reduced their luxury tax penalty by nearly $210 million by trading Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday for Anfernee Simons and Georges Niang. $238 million in total savings so far and are now $4.5 million below the second apron.
Bobby Marks on Celtics: I am expecting more moves to happen. Your backcourt of Anfernee Simons and Derrick White will probably look different when we get to training camp. Certainly ,we'll keep an eye on what happens with Kristaps Porzingis. I think the goal is certainly to get under the second apron. (…) We'll keep an eye on Sam Hauser. We'll certainly keep an eye on maybe Derrick White. I think you have to come with the monster trade package. This basically the bridge year that Boston was going to do… This certainly is the bridge year. Right now you're probably best positioned to, and I don't want to say a fire sale, but you're basically going to probably be positioning yourself for potentially probably a lottery pick here, as far as where this roster is going and you wait till Jayson Tatum gets back and you figure out what you're going to do with your roster.
Yossi Gozlan: Anfernee Simons is extension-eligible despite getting traded for three years, $104.6 million over the next six months. Celtics probably play things out into the season first. They are in a position to be well below the tax and aprons in 2026-27 by letting his contract expire.
Bobby Marks: Here are the salaries going out To Boston Anfernee Simons: $25.9M, $27.7M (UFA, 2026) * The Celtics get off the combined $72M owed to Holiday in 2026-27 and 2027-28 * Projected $40M in tax savings in 2025-26 * $18M over the 2nd apron * Simons is extension eligible To Portland Jrue Holiday: $30M, $32.4M, $34.8M, $37.2M (Player, 2027)
