Hayes, a longtime player and staffer for the Rockets, joined Houston’s front office in 2017 as a pro player personnel scout. He said in a text message on Saturday that his new role with the Warriors will encompass some scouting at the professional and college levels but also “enhance my responsibilities with free agency and some trade strategy.”
Michael Scotto: The Golden State Warriors plan to hire Chuck Hayes for a front office position with the team, league sources told @hoopshype.
One name to watch, however, is Rio Grande Valley Vipers head coach Mahmoud Abdelfattah. Sources told The Athletic that he is considered a strong candidate for one of the open assistant jobs. Abdelfattah is coming off a G League Finals win and has great relationships with Silas and the organization. Thursday’s scene at Wintrust Arena featured Chuck Hayes, Silas, Abdelfattah and Ed Pinckney watching scrimmages, with general manager Rafael Stone and assistant GM Eli Witus making the rounds. Abdelfattah has been with the franchise dating back to the days of Mike D’Antoni and is highly respected by members of the Rockets and Vipers. “There’s great communication between me and the coaching staff up in Houston, between me and the front office,” he told me last month. “And they provide as much support as we need in order to be successful.”

Former Rockets power forward and fan favorite Chuck Hayes has returned to the team as pro player personnel scout. Hayes, who held a similar position with the Denver Nuggets last season, will continue to evaluate NBA and other players for the Rockets with some work in player development, Rockets vice president Gersson Rosas said. "We value him not only as a player, but his profile and his background is extremely valuable to what we do on the personnel side," Rosas said. "He's a guy who has a different perspective. We see a guy with a lot of talent, a lot of character and a lot of upside in terms of his role in the front office."
David Hardisty: Rockets are honoring Chuck Hayes tonight and the video tribute to him was outstanding, as usual. Love the Chuckwagon.
Denver Stiffs: League source tells Denver Stiffs that the Nuggets have hired former player Chuck Hayes as an entry level staff assistant.

USA Basketball executive director and former Phoenix Suns CEO Jerry Colangelo, who recently joined the 76ers as chairman of basketball operations, has spoken to Okafor. Philadelphia is also considering adding veteran players to help their young locker room, and has spoken with Elton Brand, Shane Battier, Chuck Hayes and John Lucas III. Okafor also has received mentoring from former and current NBA veterans. "There are a lot of guys that I've been able to speak with and still speak to on just staying focused and being smart," Okafor told Yahoo Sports. "(The advice was), 'Obviously, we are in the NBA and we're going to have fun and things like that. Just be smart and learn from the mistakes.' "
