Troy Daniels last played in the NBA in the 2019-20 season. He last played professionally in the 2021-22 season, when he was in Italy. But he does not want to be so far from his family, so he is not interested in another stint overseas. He only wants to play again in the NBA. “I kind of consider myself retired. I’m not going to officially retire until I’m actually ready to do it,” said Daniels, who played in the NBA from 2014-20. “I’ve always been headstrong, trying to make it to the NBA, … and I finally made it and achieved that goal and actually sustained it longer than a lot of people expected.”
Troy Daniels: “If I can’t play (again) in the NBA, then maybe it is time for retirement. … If I got an opportunity, I would definitely take full advantage of it and we’ll see where it goes. But if I didn’t, I’m still happy.”
Daniels, who lives in Los Angeles, has found something other than basketball to occupy his time — investing in real estate. “I’ve been focusing on the business side of things lately,” he said. But he is also interested in becoming an NBA or college coach or working in an NBA front office. “I’ve been wanting to get into coaching for a long time,” Daniels said. “I’m going to take my time in doing it.”
William Fleming graduate Troy Daniels is back in Roanoke running his sixth annual Dream Big basketball camp. The seven-year NBA veteran makes it a point to give back to his hometown by instilling lessons on how to succeed both on and off the court.
Troy Daniels got a daily look at Denver star Nikola Jokic when Daniels played for the Nuggets. “He was absolutely unbelievable, the way he can pass the ball, the way he can dribble the ball, his IQ. He can shoot the ball. He can literally do everything,” Daniels said. “What’s the most amazing part is his frame. No disrespect to him, but his frame is not like a Dwight Howard frame. It’s more of a lazy type of frame … where he doesn’t have muscles.”

“I’m not going to retire,” Daniels, 32, said Friday in an interview at his camp. “I’ve got a lot more years left to play ball. “I’m just at the point in my career where I can kind of make my own decisions. I just don’t want to go back overseas. I want to continue to keep playing in the NBA, whether that’s next year or the year after. … I still have the itch to play.”
He played in Milan for Olimpia Milano after signing a one-year contract. But Daniels did not like being so far from home. “I was just so distraught being over there away from my friends and my family for so long with no breaks,” he said. “It was like 10 months straight. … My [fiancee] was pregnant, so it was kind of tough … being way over there. I’m a family-oriented guy. [But] it was a great opportunity, a great organization, the money was really good.”
Emiliano Carchia: Olimpia Milano is eyeing with interest Troy Daniels, I am told. Daniels has played 339 games in the NBA in 7 years averaging 6.6ppg.
Mike Singer: Re. possible additions in Denver: One name I’ve heard floated a few times is former Nugget Troy Daniels.

Kyle Goon: Jeanie Buss directly to fans: We miss you so much. The team misses you. But someday soon, we'll be together. She goes on to acknowledge JaVale McGee, Danny Green, Dwight Howard, Rajon Rondo, Avery Bradley, JR Smith, Dion Waiters, Troy Daniels and DeMarcus Cousins and thank them.
