Jeff Stotts: Cade Cunningham Injury Update: A pneumothorax (collapsed lung) is much more common in contact sports like the NFL but there have been several cases in the NBA including Gerald Wallace, CJ McCollum (2x), & Terrence Jones. Average time lost? 26 days (~10.8 games)
Kevin O'Connor: Cade Cunningham's collapsed lung could keep him sidelined for the rest of the regular season, but not the playoffs, if past recovery timelines are any indication: CJ McCollum, 2023: Missed 12 games over 3.5 weeks CJ McCollum, 2021: 18 games, 6 weeks Terrence Jones, 2015: 6 games, 2 weeks Gerald Wallace, 2009: 7 games, 3 weeks Average of 10.8 games over 3.6 weeks. The Pistons have 14 games remaining with one month until the playoffs. Cade has played only 61 games. He may lose out on MVP and All-NBA eligibility if he doesn't return sooner.
Tom Haberstroh: Terrence Jones is Glass Half Full Case. In 2015, Jones suffered a collapsed lung with the Rockets and coincidentally, it occurred March 19. He returned to the starting lineup just seven games later and played well in the playoffs. Hope for a similar trajectory w/ Cade.
After just one season abroad, with Udoka having played for the UCAM Murcia club in the Spanish ACB League before returning to the States in the summer, he took a trip to the NBA’s Summer League in Las Vegas to support two players who came up through the Portland, Ore.-based AAU team, I-5 Elite, that he coached from 2006 to 2009. Yet while he was there because of Terrence Ross and Terrence Jones, both of whom had been drafted in the first round the month before, it was Popovich who was looking to make a special selection of his own. “Pop grabs me and pulls me up in the stands,” Udoka remembered. “We’re at the top of the stands, and we go sit away from everybody. Then he’s like, ‘Jacque (Vaughn, who was a Spurs assistant coach at the time) is getting the Orlando head job, and there’s a spot open. I want you to think seriously about it. “We’ll hit you in a few weeks. Just think about it, and (decide) if you want to keep playing, or you want to start coaching.”
