Michael Scotto: The New Orleans Pelicans have waived two-way center Hunter Dickinson, league sources told @hoopshype. The former Michigan and Kansas star averaged 17.6 points on 59% shooting from the field and 39% from 3-point range with 10.9 rebounds and 2.3 assists in the G League last season.
Lendeborg believes the confidence he was searching for finally started to blossom once he reached Michigan. When he started practicing with his new teammates, he was reminded just how talented he was and that he could still stand out while playing alongside five-star recruits. “I started feeling like, ‘Yeah, maybe I am good enough to play here,’” he said. “That kind of clicked a little bit for me, and then, once it started getting to like I’m getting down on myself because I’m not doing as good as I want. When Dallas Mavericks general manager Mike Schmitz called to pick Dusty May’s brain about Michigan’s three NBA Draft prospects on the morning of May 24, he asked one question that got the ball rolling toward May leaving the school he’d just won a championship with to coach the Mavericks. “Would you have any interest in this job?” Schmitz’s timing was perfect, May told him. May had just returned home from the Big Ten’s spring meetings, where the league’s coaches met to discuss, among other things, the state of the game. “I was so excited for Big Ten meetings, like ‘we’re going to find some solutions,’” May told The Athletic this week. “I go there and I was just like, ‘Oh my God, nothing’s getting fixed. Ever.’”
Alejandro Zuñiga: Michigan men’s basketball is hiring Dylan Murphy, most recently the head coach of the Osceola Magic NBA G League Team, as an assistant coach, I’ve learned. Murphy is a promising offensive mind who has led the Orlando Magic affiliate to two first-place conference finishes in his three seasons. His accolades there include NBA G League Coach of the Month honors in March 2025.

Hunter Dickinson is staying in the NBA. The former Michigan star signed a two-way contract with the New Orleans Pelicans, he announced on his social media. Dickinson appeared in five games for the Pelicans as a rookie last season.

Dusty May left Michigan after two seasons and a national championship for the NBA, in part, because of the uncertainties of NIL support and the transfer portal, Michigan president Domenico Grasso said Thursday at the university’s Regents meeting. Grasso addressed the Board of Regents and those gathered at the meeting after budgets were presented by various departments.

In his post-draft press conference, Dunleavy downplayed the conversation around the No. 11 overall selection, which turned out to be Michigan forward Yaxel Lendeborg. Initially, Dunleavy joked that he and Lacob simply disagreed over which was the best golf course in San Francisco.
