San Antonio Spurs general manager Brian Wright offered a candid look at the franchise’s path to Victor Wembanyama during a recent Hard Knocks appearance. While visiting Seattle Seahawks training camp with head coach Mitch Johnson, Wright recounted how the organization zeroed in on the French prospect years before the 2023 draft. Wright explained that Spurs CEO R.C. Buford first encountered Wembanyama by chance in a gym during a trip to France. The teenager was about to turn 16. Buford returned and told the front office he believed he had seen the greatest player of his life.
Specifically, Johnson and his staff spent time at the training camp of the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks in Renton, Wash. "It's been a great visit, great people," Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald said of Johnson and his assistants, per the Seahawks website. Johnson, a native of Seattle and a fan of his hometown's sports teams, and Macdonald "gained insight into how they each run their programs," according to Seahawks.com.
Celtics alternate governor Aditya Mittal and minority owner and CEO Wyc Grousbeck are making a bid to purchase the NFL’s Seahawks, league sources confirmed Thursday. The sources said if the group secures the winning bid for the Super Bowl champions, the roles Mittal and Grousbeck hold with the Celtics would remain unchanged, and both remain committed to the franchise.
A source said Chisholm has given Mittal and Grousbeck permission to pursue ownership of the Seahawks. The source said Mittal and Grousbeck grew close while working together in the fundraising process to finalize the Celtics bid, and now they appear prepared to enter a new high-stakes venture together.

Portland Trail Blazers coach Chauncey Billups played football during his elementary school years, and although he became a basketball legend in Colorado and had a long career in the NBA, he remains a fan of football. So it shouldn’t be surprising that Billups would travel north and pay a visit to the Seattle Seahawks on Tuesday.
Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said the two spent time together at the Seahawks practice facility. “We had a really fun day together, hanging out all morning. It was cool,” Carroll told reporters Tuesday. “It was really fun having him here and to just kick it around. We were in the office just watching film and doing stuff all day long.”
Seahawks wide receiver Tyler Lockett is pretty well-prepared for the day when he eventually has to retire from the NFL. In addition to running a growing real estate business in the Seattle area, Lockett is eager to add other items to his post-football portfolio. Yesterday on Twitter, Lockett responded to a Steph Curry quote on the NBA returning to Seattle, saying he’d want to be a part of any ownership group for an expansion team.
“Seattle’s a hoop city — that’s our sport,” former NBA lottery pick and Seattle native Spencer Hawes who spent 10 seasons in the NBA from 2007-17 told The Athletic. “I love the Seahawks. I mean, I’m as big a fan as anybody. But I always tell people at the end of the day, this is a basketball town.”
