So what was Kerr to do with his starting lineup? Enter sparingly-used forward JaMychal Green. For Kerr and the Warriors, he was the lineup's next-best option to replace Looney. Was he ready to help? Absolutely, as he finished with 15 points in the Warriors' 127-100 victory. “Been waiting on this moment,” JaMychal Green said afterwards. “Just wanted to show that I could help. I’m here to help the team, and so it was just me staying ready.”

Anthony Slater: The Warriors say Kevon Looney is not feeling well but will attempt to play. Sounds like it is at least part of the reason for the JaMychal Green for Looney starting lineup swap.

Kerr has admitted that he didn’t put Green in the best position to succeed early in the season as he experimented with the lineups. Green then experienced a series of misfortune, catching COVID around Christmas and then missing an extended stretch because of a staph infection in his leg. Both of those trials took a toll on Green’s mental health. “I was frustrated with the process,” he said.

“One of the things I told James is that in this league things change quickly,” Kerr said. “You just don’t know. I reminded him that JK had some DNPs early this season. It’s tough. But things can change quickly, and you always have to stay ready. “I would love to get him out there, but right now, JaMychal is playing really well. Obviously, we’ve gone to a smaller lineup, so that Loon and Draymond are not playing together as much. It creates a little bit of a logjam at that position. James just has to stay ready.”

Anthony Slater: James Wiseman returns for the Warriors tonight, but it'll be difficult to find rotation minutes. Draymond Green has been the starting center, Looney off the bench, JaMychal Green an option. Steve Kerr: "Do the math. It's hard to get four centers into a game, especially in 2023."
