Juwan Howard on Nic Claxton: He is more of a a student of the game. And what I mean by that is like when I give him information, he sits there, he analyzes it, thinks about it. And I love the input that he gives back. Because it's a collaboration and I always tell them like, hey, we doing this together. So, what are you thinking? What are your thoughts? Nic Claxton said it was “big” for Nolan Traore to be on the court down the stretch. “You can show him that he belongs here,’’ Claxton said. “I remember when I first started getting those clutch-time minutes. It is a good feeling and being able to impact the game.” Claxton added Traore “did a lot of good things for us: Getting downhill and getting in the paint, spraying it out, making some good plays… Going forward, we’re definitely going to need that level of play from him.” Thomas’ latest absence comes in what’s been a rough season, with his future with the Nets in doubt as the Feb. 5 trade deadline approaches. Ben Saraf will be available in Traore’s absence.

Nic Claxton suffered a finger injury in the Nets’ 130-126 double overtime loss to the Celtics on Friday night, and is slated to have imaging Saturday. Brooklyn’s center hurt his right pinkie, leaving the game before returning to finish with 18 points, nine rebounds, four assists and two blocks in 39 minutes. “It’s sore. I really don’t know. I’ve just got to get X-rays, MRIs. So I don’t know,” Claxton said. “It is sore though. It was just locking up, so I just put some tape on it. I’ll know more (Saturday) probably.”

Sharif Phillips-Keaton: Nets center Nic Claxton (personal reasons) was not at practice today, but he's on his way back to Brooklyn, HC Jordi Fernandez said. Fernandez went on to say that Claxton will be good to go for tomorrow's game against the Magic.
